The Team:
The Quality Engineering team is responsible for working with the product design and development groups to influence design and engineering decisions that uphold all consumer, regulatory, and brand expectations for quality, safety, and reliability. We also work directly with international quality and manufacturing teams to support pre-production debug and any post-production issues that may arise. This is a group that makes data-drive decisions and creates the appropriate rationale for our requirements.

The Opportunity:
Mattel is currently seeking a Quality Engineer II in El Segundo, CA. This role will be a member of the corporate quality team that supports all Mattel Global Brand Teams and works directly with marketing, design, development, other R&D support teams, Quality Data Analytics as well as the Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance team. The Quality Engineer II will be involved in the product development process from concept through product launch as well as addressing field issues. This position reports to Quality Engineering Management.
What Your Impact Will Be:
- Development, implementation and maintenance of Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and Primary Concerns Documents (PCDs) in electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS)
- Supports efforts to translate design requirements into testing plans
- Leads the rollout of PRD Changes throughout the Mattel Brands Quality Engineering teams as well as other applicable cross-functional teams.
- Supports the execution of Design Risk Management process used during new product development process
- Executes strategies for robust but scalable risk assessments by product, brand, feature, etc.
- Makes effective risk-based decisions using data from post market, data analytics, play labs, and tested product performance.
- Participate in concept / design reviews and provide input on safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction as related to new products
- Supports investigation teams in product quality and safety issue resolution
- Partner with Product Development and Play Labs to develop process for the use of human factors to aid the development of products safe for the consumer
- Supports projects that have impact to organization and across departments
- Periodic travel to manufacturing sources and worldwide product development locations
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with people at all levels. Demonstrated collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary environment to present findings to enable business decisions.
- Ability to interpret consumer product regulatory standards, with an emphasis on toys or children’s products
- Knowledge of the use of statistical analysis
- Strong analytical skills. Must be able to determine solutions, make sound judgments, and carry out actions effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritize work without missing critical deadlines. Acts independently, often making decisions without management interaction.
- High level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent listening and presentation skills to communicate concisely and effectively.

Experience, Education, & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in a product development/product engineering environment
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Minitab Statistical Software
- Knowledge of engineering tools such as Statistical Analysis, Cause and Effect Analysis, process mapping, SIPOC, etc.
The annual base salary range for this position is between $78,400 and $98,000.
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
