Be part of the D&D teams that create some of the world's coolest electronic toys and games! Managing multiple new electronic items every year makes this position both challenging and rewarding. You'll communicate effectively with engineers, designers and other cross-functional teams in the El Segundo-based “Handler Team Center” and around the world. You'll contribute technological elements to concepts in a collaborative setting as part of the Mattel Brands Toy Design teams. You'll routinely collaborate in brainstorming new product concepts. You'll bring your inquisitive mind, inventive instinct, enthusiasm for electronic toys and gadgets, and your expertise as an electronic design engineer to fascinating projects on a daily basis, for the world's largest toy company.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Designing, prototyping, and troubleshooting analog and digital electronic circuits
  • Taking ideas from concept through development and into production
  • Ability to be a self-starter, self-motivating, self-directing, and self-managing and a strong team player
  • Project managing and the ability to lead, multi-task and handle several projects simultaneously
  • Building prototypes based on input from non-technical partners
  • Effectively pitch toy concepts to peers and upper management
  • Working with China-based and other global vendors
  • Working with mechatronic / animatronic system design, TFT / OLED Displays, MEMS motion sensors & microphones, Wireless ICs (BT, WiFi, 2.4G), Microprocessors and Peripherals

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • At least 3-6 years hands-on experience in design, prototyping and troubleshooting analog and digital electronic circuits.
  • Working knowledge of components and ability to define systems and systems architecture – hardware, firmware and software.
  • Proficiency in schematic creation in tools like Altium Designer. PCB layout and debug experience a plus.
  • The vision and perseverance to take ideas from concept through development and into production.
  • Must be self-starting, self-motivating, self-directing and self-managing and a strong team player
  • Project management skills; the ability to lead, multi-task and handle several projects simultaneously a must
  • Familiarity with any of ARM, 6502, Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar a must.  Experience with smaller embedded systems like Nuvoton, Sonix, Nyquest, Generalplus a plus.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with firmware development for embedded systems both with assembly code and higher level language a must.
  • Experience in product development within consumer electronics industry is required. 
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Design, Project Management, Packaging, etc.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems is highly desirable
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Electronic Engineering is strongly preferred
  • Ability to effectively pitch toy concepts to peers and upper management
  • Experience in product development within the toy industry
  • Experience working with China-based and other global vendors
  • Familiarity with plastics

The annual base salary range for this position is between $78,400 and $98,000.
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
