The Opportunity:
Mattel, Inc. is seeking a creative Associate Packaging Engineer to join its team of innovative packaging professionals. This position has the possibility to work on both IP brands like Hot Wheels, Barbie, Matchbox as well as a variety of licensed brands like Disney Cars, Toy Story, WWE, Jurassic World and many others. This position is located at Mattel's Handler Team Center at its Worldwide Headquarters in El Segundo, CA.
We are seeking a creative packaging individual who is involved in the package design process (not just production process) and trained in Artios CAD and 3D modeling (i.e. Solidworks). We need a confident individual able to drive the packaging process with project management and creative skills. We are seeking a team centric individual that will work and collaborate with internal Packaging Design Staff, Marketing, Product Design, Project Managers and our counterparts Overseas. We encourage innovative thinkers and go-getters! This is a highly creative team working on a variety of packages and brands for an extensive line of playful and engaging products.
What Your Impact Will Be:
As an Associate Packaging Engineer, this individual will support the design and development of innovative structural packaging solutions to support worldwide product launches through a good knowledge of technology and materials. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to:
- Create innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage
- Design 3D structures that compliment and protect complex products
- Originate a package concept for cost estimate and provide different packaging solutions and cost savings
- Work on various projects concurrently and adhere to packaging and business schedules
- Work cohesively and collaboratively in a team environment; to create standard engineering drawings and to have direct experience working with paper materials plus multiple plastics.
- Ability to ideate and express ideas visually and verbally to the cross functional teams.
- Present ideas, problems and solutions to management and peers.
- Act as liaison and creative engineering partner with our China team.
- Participate in various team/department/management meetings.
- Support several toy fair requirements throughout the year.
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor's Degree majoring in Industrial, Structural Design and/or Packaging Engineering
- Highly creative individual with ability to develop innovative package solutions.
- Ideal candidate should be organized, a thought leader in the field, able to collaborate or develop ideas independently, and have experience working with CAD programs.
- Familiarity with common packaging materials including chip, blister, corrugation, p.v.c., styrene, tapes, poly bags, etc.
- Experience working with graphic designers to build a physical packaging prototype.
- Knowledge of 3D/CAD design software (i.e. Artios, Pro-E,and/or Solidworks.)
- Knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator a plus.
- Ability to fabricate pattern molds and pull blisters.
- Understanding of planograms, space management and other retail concerns.
- Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.
The annual base salary range for this position is $77,000.
