Senior Software Engineer

Overview:
Mastercard's Test and Learn team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in our rapidly growing and successful organization. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with seasoned engineers to tackle complex problems as a cohesive team. You'll engage with cutting-edge product opportunities, address modern business challenges, and work with intricate datasets that present uniquely demanding problems. You will contribute to the development of APIs and services that are integral to the Test & Learn platform, while maintaining a strong connection to our customers and the business value we deliver.

The Test & Learn teams within Mastercard's Services organization aim to build industry-leading business experimentation software that brings sophisticated analytic techniques to business users around the world. We are rapidly expanding our product offerings and innovating on how we deliver Test & Learn solutions to our clients.

Engineers work in small, flexible teams. Every team member contributes to designing, building, and testing features. There are no rigid organizational structures, and each team uses processes and technologies that work best for team members and projects.

Role:
• Build features used by some of the world's largest organizations to make multi-million-dollar decisions.
• Lead and push the technical boundaries of powerful, scalable applications.
• Work closely with product managers and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and deliver high-impact features.
• Identify non-functional requirements for features and design technical implementations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software architecture and design patterns that meet business requirements and align with best practices.
• Design and build APIs and infrastructure that serve a broad audience.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and scalability through code reviews and automated testing.
• Analyze performance characteristics in technical systems and implement solutions to improve performance.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from ideation and design through implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Proactively monitoring and adding instrumentation to ensure consistent performance.

All About You:
• Extensive experience as a full-stack Software Engineer or Software Developer with a strong emphasis in an agile production environment
• Proficiency with advanced server-side object-oriented programming, microservice development, and relational database query optimization.
• Experience analyzing performance characteristics in technical systems and implementing technical solutions to improve performance.
• Experience having worked with and designed libraries, APIs, and/or other software infrastructure.
• Drive to identify and solve the root problem, not just the assigned ticket.
• Proficiency in software release best practices including database migrations, feature flags, backwards compatibility, API/library versioning, and code branching strategies.
• Experience in system architecture design and refactoring involving multiple services.
• Proven track record mentoring junior engineers, teaching technical skills as well as providing feedback on code reviews.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Feeling of ownership over the quality and accuracy of work by all developers on the team, not just your own.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on improving processes to accelerate delivery, foster innovation, reduce costs, and improve quality.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills, leveraging tools and logs to identify and remediate issues identified during development and in production.
