Overview

• Senior Managing Counsel - Geo North will provide high-quality responsive legal services to Geo North Division (Central America and the Caribbean) of Latin America and Caribbean Region.

• Position is based in Mexico City where Geo North Division senior management is located.
• Position reports to Latin America and Caribbean Region Lead Counsel based in Miami.

Role

• Lead all aspects of legal support for Geo North Division across all facets of Mastercard's business. Act as lead for all components of the Law and Franchise Integrity (LFI) functions supporting Geo North, and act as manager for such personnel.
• Primary legal counsel to, and partner of, Geo North Division senior management (division president and his senior management team).
• Partner with Miami-based LAC Lead Counsel and other LFI colleagues to ensure high-quality responsive legal and other LFI services are provided to Geo North Division.
• Primary provider or manager of a wide range of general commercial legal work, including drafting and advising on business agreements with Mastercard® licensees in the Geo North Division, sponsorship agreements, cardholder promotions, franchising, e-commerce, intellectual property issues, technology issues, payment product offering issues, corporate governance, employment matters, and support for litigation and regulatory matters.
• Help ensure that Geo North Division conducts its business affairs in compliance with applicable law, regulation, Mastercard's Rules, policies, procedures and general high ethical standards.
• Communicate effectively with Geo North Division, Latin America and Caribbean Region and Purchase, New York-based HQ commercial and LFI staff; and ability to balance the interests of such groups while facilitating proper integration of such interests.
• Supervise and coordinate outside counsel.

All About You

• Law degree (JD or LLM) from accredited U.S. law school and/or equivalent degree from a jurisdiction in the Latin America and Caribbean Region (with particular emphasis on Central America and the Caribbean).
• Solid general corporate and commercial lawyer skills a must with emphasis on contract negotiation and drafting.
• Good client management skills a must.
• Self-confident, robust lawyer who can both facilitate the achievement or business objectives while also protecting the business by ensuring proper legal, regulatory and internal policy compliance.
• Ability to prioritize, self-starter, quick-study, ability to work independently
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Experience working in the payments industry, finance industry or technology industry a plus, experience working with financial or antitrust regulators also a plus.
• Semi-frequent travel across the Geo North Division, Miami, Florida and Purchase, New York.
