Overview
Mastercard is seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Digital and Network Solutions team. In this role you will be located in St Louis or Purchase, and will report into the Senior Managing Counsel for that team. This role is crucial in providing legal support and guidance on digital products, such as tokenization, digital wallets and authentication, and helping future-proof Mastercard's core network in the areas of connectivity, immediacy and switching. You will be part of a highly agile team building exciting and innovative products delivered at scale to global markets.

This role requires strong commercial knowledge and experience in the technology and financial services space, with experience working with payments solutions a significant advantage. The role will act as an advisor for product and sales clients to help enable the delivery of the commercial objectives and business strategy. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, intellectually curious and analytical, dedicated to delivering strategic and hands-on legal support and partnership to develop the next generation of Mastercard product solutions focused on enabling the future of payments.
Role
As Senior Counsel, you will be a member of the Law & Policy team supporting Mastercard's Consumer Solutions businesses. You will take a major role in handling product development and support matters for the business on a day-to-day basis, identifying and analyzing relevant issues and helping the business effectively navigate legal and regulatory risks and implement appropriate controls, policies and processes. You will:
• Provide legal support for the development and evolution of relationships with major global digital technology companies.
• Provide legal support for Mastercard's Click to Pay product and suite of secure remote commerce products and solutions.
• Provide legal support for the Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) and associated tokenization products.
• Provide guidance around Mastercard's digital activity standards/requirements (e.g. rules interpretation/compliance, modifications to existing rules, creation of new rules).
• Ensure alignment in terms of the applicability of the digital activity rules and other applicable standards relative to the business models of our customers and other stakeholders.
• Provide legal support for Mastercard's Network Products team, which works on transforming and future proofing Mastercard's network and builds value added services for faster, secure, cutting edge payment experiences and enables Mastercard's enterprise priorities and growth.
• Partner with technology, sales, franchise, cybersecurity and intelligence and others to shape and launch innovative products and solutions globally that differentiate Mastercard and meet our customers' and cardholders' rapidly changing needs
• Draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts (including complex technology agreements, and customer and vendor agreements) in furtherance of Mastercard's digital solutions and network products.
• Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of applicable laws and government regulations affecting the operation and product development of Mastercard's business.
• Actively participate in the global Network and Digital Payment Services team of attorneys who are responsible for global digital product development.
• Manage tactical and strategic legal support related to products and solutions to drive convergence of physical and digital payments and advance Mastercard's corporate objectives.
• Inform policy and regulatory positions related to Mastercard's products and innovation with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Location
This role can be based at the Mastercard offices in either St Louis or Purchase. As our team supports the business globally, the role may require some travel and ability to support other time zones.
All About You
• Law degree from an established and reputable law school; licensed to practice in one or more states or jurisdictions.
• An interest in the financial services industry, payments, e-commerce solutions for consumers and merchants.
• Exposure to a broad range of commercial and technology law issues including with respect to emerging technology, digital identity and e-commerce.
• Experience working on products and solutions involving digital wallets, authentication or digital identity and advising on related legal issues is desirable, but not essential.
• Experience across a range of commercial and technology contracts and the ability to analyze and identify the core legal issues, skilled at explaining technical problems succinctly and clearly.
• A working knowledge of data privacy and intellectual property issues and how they relate to emerging technology.
• Must have a strategic mindset and be able to effectively discuss with and advise senior management regarding complex legal matters and challenging situations
• Must be able to contribute and operate effectively within a diverse multicultural organization
• Should have a positive "can-do" attitude, be stress-resistant and ready to go the extra mile, and be willing to take initiative
• Should be team player who is both organizationally savvy and a strong communicator, and is able to collaborate cross-functionally and across regions

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
