We're looking for talented Principal software development engineer to join our engineering team to help lead, design modernize franchise solutions using advanced technologies and applications that are revolutionizing payments while continue enhancing existing legacy platform.

As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the design, architecture, and delivery of high-performance, scalable software solutions. You will work on mission-critical systems, primarily focusing on backend technologies, and guide teams to build robust applications using Spring Boot and Java. Experience with front-end technologies like ReactJS and Big Data frameworks is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead Technical Architecture & Design: Own and define the architecture for high-performance, scalable applications.
• Back-End Development: Develop and maintain microservices and backend systems primarily using Java and Spring Boot.
• Mentorship & Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, helping them grow their skills and improve their craft.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including front-end developers, product managers, and data engineers, to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Continuous Improvement: Actively seek opportunities for process improvement, advocating for best practices in software development, design patterns, and testing.
• Performance Optimization: Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of critical applications.
• Innovation: Explore and experiment with emerging technologies, especially related to Big Data, cloud, and front-end frameworks.
• Code Reviews: Conduct thorough code reviews, ensuring code quality, security, and scalability.
• Big Data & Front-End Integration: Collaborate with Big Data engineers and front-end developers to integrate solutions and ensure seamless user experiences.

About You:
• Spring Boot & Java Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the Java tech stack. Expertise in RESTful services, microservices, and cloud-native development.
• Design Patterns & Best Practices: Deep understanding of software design patterns, clean code principles, and best practices in software engineering.
• Microservices Architecture: Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying microservices architectures.
• Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Unit Testing & CI/CD: Solid understanding of test-driven development (TDD), automated testing, and continuous integration/deployment pipelines.
• Database Knowledge: Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design, querying, and optimization.
• Mentoring & Leadership: Previous experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and leading engineering teams.
• Agile Methodologies: Experience working in agile development teams, including Scrum or Kanban.
• Front-End Technologies: Knowledge of front-end frameworks like ReactJS to better collaborate with front-end teams.
• Big Data Technologies: Experience with Big Data frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
• Containerization: Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration tools.
• AI/ML: Familiarity with AI/ML models and into backend systems.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
