Overview
The XBS Engineering team is looking for a Lead Database Engineer to lead initiatives to build and maintain database technologies, environments and applications, and seek new opportunities for improvements and efficiencies. The ideal candidate is passionate about databases, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possesses an innovative mindset, with a strategic vision for long-term growth and the adaptability to seize new opportunities and drive results.

Role
As a Lead Database Engineer, you will:
- Lead initiatives to build and maintain database environments, architect internal data solutions and conduct performance tuning and optimization
- Manage the deployment of database solutions that are optimally standardized and database updates to meet project deliverables
- Lead database security posture, which includes proactively identifying security risks and implementing both risk mitigation plans and control functions
- Oversee the resolution of chronic complex problems to prevent future database performance issues
- Support process improvement efforts to identify and test opportunities for automation and/or reduction in time to deployment
- Be responsible for complex design, development, and performance and system testing, and provide functional guidance and advice to experienced database administrators
- Mentor junior staff by providing training to develop technical skills and capabilities across the team

All About You
The ideal candidate for this position should:
- Have expertise in designing scalable and efficient database architectures (both relational and NoSQL), including schema design, normalization and query optimization
- Have advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex query development and performance tuning. Experience with query optimization, indexing and troubleshooting database performance issues
- Be familiar with cloud-based databases (e.g. AWS RDS) and big data tools (e.g. Hadoop)
- Have a strong understanding of database security best practices (encryption, access control), and regulatory compliance
- Prove leadership in managing and mentoring database engineering teams, along with experience in automating database tasks and integrating databases into CI/CD pipelines
- Have a strong ability to analyze complex issues, troubleshoot problems, and devise innovative solutions
- Show a strong sense of initiative, taking ownership of tasks and proactively seek improvements or solutions without constant supervision
