Title and Summary

Compliance Director EEMEA

Overview - Mastercard Transaction Services (MTS) is an arm of Mastercard that provides regulated payment services in a number of key regions globally.

Role - The role of Regional Compliance Director has been created to support the rapid growth of our payments business originating from Eastern Europe, the GCC and African markets.

Working closely with both the MTS Compliance team, the product team and regional business teams, this role requires a deep understanding of the banking and payments business across the region, the key players and the local regulatory environments, especially within the GCC.

This role will include considerable influencing and negotiation, often having to reconcile differing opinions to enable a win win for the business.

About you - You will have several years experience in an anti-money laundering role, acquired in a large and regulated financial services organisation, in the region, at a senior level. If you hold, or have held a role with direct accountability to a regulator this will also be helpful.

You will understand the key money laundering, sanctions and fraud risks of operating in the region and how to mitigate them.

You should be well connected with a network of contacts within both the main banks and the exchange houses that enable you to stay in touch with emerging regional trends.

Whilst this region is growing quickly there are also some sizeable risks that must be addressed to operate safely. You will therefore be comfortable assessing high risk customers, forming a considered judgement and presenting a case to relevant committees, settlement banks and regulators. If necessary you will be need to travel to conduct on site reviews.

An able negotiator, you will be experienced in building networks of influence both within and outside the business. You will be working with colleagues across the world and an ability to adapt to, and work with, different cultures is essential.

Ideally you will be fluent in both English and Arabic at a business level. French would also be advantageous but not essential.

Corporate Security Responsibility

All activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks comes with an inherent risk to the organization and, therefore, it is expected that every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security and must:

  • Abide by Mastercard's security policies and practices;
