Position:
The Head of Privacy, Data and AI Governance will drive the strategy and execution of integrated governance and risk management practices and assessments to ensure MassMutual:
- Delivers an effective data privacy program for consumers, employees, and other stakeholders that entrust their data to MassMutual;
- Leverages the value of its data assets in a responsible and ethical manner; and
- Responsibly and ethically acquires, develops, and implements Artificial Intelligence Systems that leverage our governed data and provide value to MassMutual's employees, advisors, and policyholders.
The Head of Privacy, Data and AI Governance will report to the Enterprise Technology & Experience (ETX) Head of Strategy & Governance and ensure that MassMutual's acquisition, use, storage, sharing, and disposition of data and AI Systems are compliant, ethical, and effectively managed throughout their lifecycle. This role is crucial in promoting a culture of accountability and innovation, aligning with MassMutual's business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Lead and coach a team of professionals, including the Head of Data and AI Governance Implementation & Risk Assessments, the Head of Data and AI Governance Capabilities, and the Director of Data Privacy Program to enable their expertise in business, technical, governance, and risk management areas.
- Define and set a comprehensive 3 - 5-year strategy for privacy, data governance, and AI ethics, ensuring alignment with MassMutual's goals and regulatory requirements.
- Working within the enterprise cyber, technology, and data governance and risk management framework, develop, implement, and maintain enhanced company-wide policies and control objectives to ensure the responsible and ethical use of data and AI across MassMutual and applicable subsidiaries.
- Partner with second line of defense functions in Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance & Ethics to ensure compliance with industry regulation and effective management of data risks to ensure protection of MassMutual from reputational risk and financial exposure.
- Play a key role with data and AI systems owners across all business areas to influence adoption and implementation of effective privacy, data and AI controls.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of enterprise governance and risk management tools, including data dictionaries, data catalogs, and AI model inventories, to support robust governance practices.
- Ensure the creation and execution of data and AI risk assessments, developing mitigation strategies as necessary.
- Monitor and report to senior and executive leadership on the effectiveness of governance and risk management practices, and provide assurance of policy adherence and mitigation development, where necessary.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment, encouraging cross-functional partnerships and continuous improvement.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Bachelors or Master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field; relevant certifications a plus.
- Minimum of 15 years' work experience in governance, risk, compliance, technology, and/or security, with a minimum of 7 years in a leadership role.
- Extensive experience in developing and coaching team members, with a proven track record in designing and implementing governance and risk management methodologies.
- Proven ability to translate governance and risk policy into cohesive practices with corresponding delivery roadmaps.
- Deep knowledge of widely accepted privacy, data, and AI governance and risk management frameworks and practices, along with a strong understanding of related regulations and ethics.
- Identifiable track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams across the three lines of defense to deliver key initiatives.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills; adept at active listening and effective collaboration.
- Proven ability to create high-quality materials for an executive-level audience, with attention to detail and a balance of practicality and value-creation.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive outcomes and resolve issues and barriers to progress.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex concepts clearly and effectively.
- Ability to travel between our Boston and Springfield campuses.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
