The Opportunity

The Reinsurance Administration Team is seeking a highly engaged individual to join a dynamic and agile team environment. This individual will be very organized, with excellent communication skills, detail-oriented, and excited to take accountability and ownership for their work.

In this position you will be responsible for managing a diverse project portfolio, leading communications with our reinsurance partners, issue resolution, and developing metrics and tools to measure and manage our business. You will play a key role in audits and quality control, special projects, complex issue research and, finding solutions to business problems.

The individual will report to the Head of Reinsurance Administration while collaborating with colleagues in legal, underwriting, claims, product teams, systems teams, and partners across the CFO organization.

The Team

Reinsurance Administration is a small team responsible for the administrative and operational aspects of all reinsurance agreements across the company and is part of the larger Reinsurance Development team. The team is focused on efficiently and effectively administering our reinsurance agreements, implementing new agreements, continuous improvement, optimizing the Company's use of reinsurance, and collaborating across the organization.

We thrive on identifying solutions and executing, serving as subject matter experts for the company, and continuous process improvement.

The Impact

Reinsurance provides essential support for nearly every product line at MassMutual, where you will have broad exposure across the company and perform a function that directly impacts the company's performance and provides critical support for key strategic initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Manage our team's project portfolio including project planning and reporting
  • Lead our relationships with reinsurance partners, including handling professional communications and issue resolution
  • Assist in the oversight of sourced resources to ensure high quality and timeliness
  • Develop tools and metrics to help measure and manage our business
  • Drive productive interactions related to new product releases, projects, and company strategic goals and lead the effective implementation and administration of reinsurance programs to support them
  • Collaborate with other MassMutual business units and corporate functions to ensure the accurate, timely, and efficient submission of data and analysis required to reinsurers and to meet reporting requirements
  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase the business value and efficiency of the team
  • Contribute to our successful transition to new technology solutions to automate and improve our processes


The Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in business, business management or related field
  • 3+ years of experience working in a large insurance organization, life insurance, financial services or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience with MS Excel and Office suite of products


The Ideal Qualifications
  • Experience with Life or Annuity reinsurance is a plus
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using data to explore issues, quantify results, and present conclusions
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Skill improving business processes, including analysis of risks and impacts
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and adjust according to changing business needs
  • Experience working on large or complex projects
  • Ability to proactively take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across cross-functional groups
  • Experience with Smartsheet, JIRA, MS Project, or similar project management tools
