Job Purpose/Overview
The IT Systems Administrator will maintain, upgrade, and manage our software, hardware, and networks under the guidance of our Teamlead / Manager IT Service. Resourcefulness and the ability to diagnose and resolve problems quickly are necessary skills in this role. The Senior IT Systems Administrator should also have the patience to communicate with various interdisciplinary teams and users to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interface with the help desk and IT support technicians to resolve and document hardware and software troubleshooting tickets, bug reports, and errors.
- Provide support to on-site/off-site staff and align regular with the Lab Managers in the different locations.
- Manage and maintain Windows Active Directory.
- Oversee VM-Ware and HyperV virtualization environments.
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 (M365) and Azure services.
- Write and maintain PowerShell and custom scripts to increase system efficiency and reduce human intervention time on tasks.
- Apply ITIL best practices in IT service management and implement ITIL processes (incident, problem, change management).
- Provide technical support and guidance to team members, including on-call duties as an escalation point.
- Stay current with industry trends and document procedures.
- Monitor network performance and existing systems to ensure structural integrity.
- Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
- Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability and manage and maintain file servers.
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes.
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
- Oversee the development and installation of new hardware and software, and test installed software for issues.
- Provide technical direction to IT support staff and ensure constant availability of technical resources.
- Connect and maintain laboratory devices (RS232-IP, Perl BOX, HL7 beneficial).
- Assist with designing and implementing security systems and redundant backups to maintain data safety.
- Strong knowledge of Lab Information Systems support and the ability to interface instruments to Lab Information Systems.
- Working knowledge of terminal servers.

Education and Experience
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject.
- Proven experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network issues.
- Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of applications.
- Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware/HyperV), and monitoring systems.
- Experience in Laboratory or Hospital IT (beneficial).
- Experience with automation software Microsoft Intune.
- Solid scripting skills (PowerShell).
- Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Communicate effectively in German (required) and English (proficient).
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Excellent follow-through skills.
- Effective listening skills
- Travel up to 30% required
