Job Description:

With Digital First, Mars Pet Nutrition is moving to a Product based model to create business facing digital capabilities. The Data Governance Lead will be responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, and security of our data assets. This role will lead efforts to establish policies, standards, and procedures for effective data management and ensure compliance with industry regulations and corporate policies. Reporting to the Director - Data Governance (Global Pet Nutrition), the person in this role will be a part of the Global PN Data foundation Leadership team. The role operates globally and partners with PN D&A leaders, PN business and digital leaders across all functions. In addition, this role will be working closely with cross-divisional and cross-segment data teams to drive synergies and leverage best practices.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, or a related field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks.
  • Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica) and metadata management.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and risk management frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
  • Experience in data governance and data management within the CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) industry is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of data architecture, data lifecycle management, metadata management, and master data management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across various levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Mars Principles: Embody and champion the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within both your team and yourself.
  • Collaboration on Data Onboarding: Work closely with data stewards, domain owners, SMEs, data engineers, data architects and product owners to onboard data assets into a unified Data Governance Tool (Purview) and Data Observability Platform. The DDF team drives a domain-driven approach, and you will be accountable for two data domains and their respective subdomains across all regions.
  • Single DG Playbook: Lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of a comprehensive data governance framework, encompassing policies, standards, and processes.
  • DG Op Model: Identify and engage data owners, stewards, and key stakeholders to ensure clear accountability for data quality and governance across all business functions and regions. Establish DG bodies (DG Council, Stewardship community etc) and drive clear agenda.
  • Data Quality Management: Oversee the establishment of data quality standards and metrics, ensuring consistency, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Work with DQ team on monitoring implementation and reporting to maintain data integrity.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and internal governance policies. Collaborate with Mars core Legal, Compliance, and Information Security teams to mitigate data-related risks.
  • Data Strategy & Enablement: Partner with Data & Analytics teams to align governance principles with the broader data strategy and business objectives. Foster a data-driven culture through education, communication, and advocacy.
  • Tools & Technology Enablement: Lead the assessment, selection, and implementation of data governance tools and technologies. Work closely with Enterprise Architects and Data Platform team to ensure the technical infrastructure supports the data governance program.
  • Communication and Adoption: Together with Corporate Affairs and P&O teams develop and deliver training programs to promote best practices in data governance across all levels of the organization. Create communication materials to enhance awareness and adoption of the governance framework.
  • Performance Measurement & Reporting: Define KPIs and metrics to track the effectiveness of the data governance program. Provide regular updates and insights to senior leadership on progress, challenges, and key initiatives.
