Job Description:

The Mars Global Services (MGS) Operating Entity (OE) Controller is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of financial reporting (internal and external) for all MGS company codes globally, including accounting for transformational projects, assessing their impact on accounting/reporting. The role drives standardization of MGS accounting globally to enable transparency and accuracy. The position is responsible for being the GAAP expert within the MGS segment for all technical accounting matters and liaison with Corporate for technical matters as noted within the Finance Manual ("FM"). This role also ensures effective execution of MGS OE controls as one of the associates certifying the MGS BU quarterly and annual representation letters regarding business ethics and standards of business practice, local laws and regulations along with accounting policies and internal control guidelines. The role requires partnership with multiple stakeholders including MGSF, MGS service lines' finance leads, MVA accounting team, ICTC, Internal Auditors, PWC and others to identify and deliver improved efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and controls within the close and reporting cycle. This person will ensure that MGS consolidated costs (over $1B) are correctly recorded and therefore subsequently billed-out to respective Mars segments in timely manner.

This position requires work across multiple countries, time zones and boundaries. The role requires close working relationships with different stakeholders, including service provider, Corporate Financial Controller and their teams, MGSF, segment Controller and CFO. This role needs to ensure that globally MGS has strong financial reporting, controls and policies/practices/standards. This role must effectively influence prioritization of issue resolution and modification of Mars policies to consider Segment needs, where required, or tailor implementation appropriate for their Segment.

What are we looking for?

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA/CIA required or equivalent professional accounting qualification
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, governance and control experience, including overall responsibility for consolidation / close at unit or greater level
  • SAP Experience or equivalent ERP system is preferred
  • Tenured experience with financial statement reporting requirements, statutory/regulatory requirements
  • Expertise in US GAAP and application of principles to Mars service business areas or ICE Controls/ Internal controls.
  • Former line management experience is preferred, Associate will have 2 direct reports and multiple indirect reports on their team.
  • Must have experience influencing and collaborating across a large-multinational corporation, shared services, or similar environment.
  • User Centric Process and Optimization; Problem Solving and Change Management.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Partner with business as Accounting expert to consult and action any questions regarding proper accounting and ensure compliance with the FM.
  • MGS segment accounting expert for contract and lease review; Lucernex key user
  • Accounting expert to support and partner with business for new and existing business activities, transformation projects to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Perform financial analysis and insights to ensure the quality of accounts for all MGS ledgers.
  • Drive compliance with the FM for all accounting procedures, and processes within MGS segment.
  • Drive simplification and standardization of period close processes based upon best practices to drive results of quality and deficiency across MGS
  • Deliver quality balance sheet management, reporting and review. Partnering with MGSF to deliver timely balance sheet review meetings, actions and improvements.
  • Manage relationship with external auditors to lead any unit business unit audit and drive any other matters identified within MGS units globally to conclusion.
  • Ensure no significant IA/external audit observations, remediate past observations timely and with quality. Key contact for auditors related to MGS company codes.
  • Responsible for adherence and certification of ICE Controls for the MGS unit.
  • Lead financial investigations related to R25 incidents
  • Certify/counter-sign quarterly representation letter for MGS company codes globally
  • MGS lead for any tax inquiries from ITBC regarding statutory audits.
  • Support implementation of new business models and systems.
  • Line manager to Accounting Manager supporting Europe and MGS Governance and Control Manager.
