About the Role

The Senior Accountant ensures the timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and yearly close of ESE project-based accounting for engineering projects in CAS (Cost Accounting System).

Your Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Engineering projects in CAS (Cost Accounting System) and provide financial information to Engineer managers.
  • Setting up projects, keeping track of Engineer hours, and ensuring timely approval of their timesheets.
  • Review monthly activity reports for accuracy and prepare the monthly invoices with supporting documents.
  • Assist with monthly project reconciliations, account analysis, and journal entry preparations.
  • Prepare and maintain WIP and engineering labor and after-closing hours reports.
  • Prepare contract labor and book necessary accruals for month end.
  • Investigate any discrepancy in hours, timesheets, and department numbers. Make necessary adjustments in a journal entry booked for each department.
  • Analyze project status reports and develop action plans for variance, including assisting with the review of unbilled and deferred revenue.
  • Prepare and maintain transfer tax schedules.
  • Help the Controller with the accuracy of departmental financial statements.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare and distribute necessary financial reports to program managers for review.
  • Assist the Controller with the ESE engineering budget and forecasts.
  • Support and prepare various account reconciliations.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Controller or Director - Financial Reporting.

Who we are looking for

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of working experience in a public or large corporate accounting role is required.

Experience/Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience with SAP (FI, CO, and WBS element) is preferred.
  • Experience using HFM or OneStream is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in accounting for R&D and project accounting is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks, ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills, oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills along with a strong sense of time management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while under pressure of deadlines and provide a high degree of accuracy.
  • Must be a team player, highly motivated, experienced in working with a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and integrity in all aspects of the job.
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively with all employee levels in a positive, cooperative, and productive manner.
  • Strong degree of initiative and judgment.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require travel.
