JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Manager oversees and coordinates daily production activities to meet quality, cost, delivery and safety objectives. This includes managing staffing, materials, and equipment to achieve production schedules. The role is responsible for ensuring products are produced to required standards while analyzing and implementing responses to new product requirements or changes.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and coordinate all activities within the shop floor to execute production plans aligned with organizational goals for quality, cost, delivery and safety.
  • Provide leadership and support to staff, fostering skill development and building a team-based organization focused on achieving objectives.
  • Manage the financial aspects of production operations, ensuring budgets are maintained and contributing to overall financial performance.
  • Provide strategic leadership and technical expertise, including recommending new equipment purchases for new launches.
  • Balance production needs with new product introductions by coordinating with manufacturing, product development, and procurement teams to align resources and meet the sales plan.
  • Develop and implement both short-term and long-term strategies for plant operations, including researching and recommending new processes, systems and policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts by eliminating waste, reducing operational costs, and introducing more efficient business/manufacturing methods.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, standards, and procedures, as well as safety and quality regulations.
  • Lead safety, quality, and productivity programs, conducting regular workplace inspections and addressing non-compliance issues as necessary.
  • Perform project work and distribute necessary communication to support business objectives.
  • Direct, promote and review programs relating to safety, quality and productivity in the division and recommend changes where desirable. Perform regular workplace inspections and monitor compliance with all Health and Safety policies and procedures.

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enforce compliance with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MiOSHA) regulations.
  • Correct unsafe acts or hazardous conditions and ensure adherence to all safety and plant rules.
  • Conduct regular safety reviews in line with Magna's supervisor competency training.
  • Train employees on the safe use of equipment, materials and chemicals.
  • Lead accident investigations and inspections, ensuring timely completion in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Attend required Environmental, Health and Safety training.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience in manufacturing leadership may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in a manufacturing leadership role, with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, operations, and quality systems.
  • Strong leadership style with a demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop team members toward achieving departmental and organizational goals. Ability to foster a cohesive team and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences, ensuring clarity of actions and expectations. Capable of presenting information and responding to questions from technical and management groups.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing / Toyota Production System principles. Ability to manage projects and programs, maintain quality, control costs, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and apply statistical techniques as necessary.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and experience enforcing safety standards within a standard manufacturing environment.
  • English proficiency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
