About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Cloud Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in deploying and managing RDS and Aurora Postgres and MySQL databases within cloud environments.
The Sr. Cloud Database Administrator will be responsible for monitoring system performance, responding to alerts and user-reported errors, protecting databases against security threats, managing backups and indexes, reporting on metrics, designing scalable databases, planning and overseeing major migrations and upgrades, developing PL/PGSQL functions and procedures, consulting with application developers, and providing mentorship to junior DBAs.
Responsibilities:
- Deploy and manage RDS and Aurora Postgres and MySQL databases within cloud environments.
- Monitor system performance and identify problems that arise.
- Respond to alerts and user-reported errors in a timely manner.
- Protect databases against security threats and unauthorized access.
- Manage backups, indexes, partitions, and other database maintenance activities.
- Report on metrics regarding usage and performance.
- Design databases with the highest scalability and throughput in mind.
- Design database management systems for failover and high availability.
- Plan and oversee major database migrations and upgrade efforts.
- Develop PL/PGSQL functions and procedures for various needs.
- Develop scripts for automated database maintenance processes.
- Consult with application developers and make recommendations on database query performance.
- Provide mentorship to junior DBAs on the team and across the organization.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to work in-office during UK Shift Timing (11:00am – 8:00pm Local Time) Required
- Fluent in English language (verbal and written) and possessing a clear and concise communication style
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5 years + as Database Administrator.
- In-depth knowledge of RDS and Aurora Postgres and MySQL databases within cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of system performance monitoring and problem identification.
- Familiarity with database security measures and best practices.
- Proficient in managing backups, indexes, and partitions.
- Excellent reporting skills for metrics regarding usage and performance.
- Experience in designing scalable databases.
- Proficient in planning and overseeing major database migrations and upgrade efforts.
- Strong development skills in PL/PGSQL.
- Experience in developing scripts for automated database maintenance processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to junior DBAs.
