Role Overview

This is an 18-month, temporary full time, grant funded position. Reporting to the Archives Senior Manager, the Shelby White and Leon Levy Processing Archivist ("Processing Archivist") will be responsible for processing and providing access to collections in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts ("LCPA") Archives, specifically photographs, as well as early records of the organization related to the building of Lincoln Center. The Processing Archivist will undertake arrangement, description, weeding, and rehousing of the physical collections, as well as the creation of finding aids in ArchivesSpace and integration with digitized and/or born-digital materials in LCPA's digital asset management system.

The Processing Archivist will be an integral member of a team committed to careful stewardship and preservation of collections and to increasing access and discoverability of the LCPA Archives.

What You'll Get To Do Here:

  • Arrange and describe archival collections, preparing finding aids in ArchivesSpace in accordance with local and national standards.
  • Create monthly progress reports of activities.
  • Weed out duplicate materials following established policy.
  • Rehouse and label collections containers as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

You'll Be A Fit If You Bring:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of related experience required.
  • Master's degree from an ALA accredited library and or information science program, with Archives specialization strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one-year experience in archival processing required.
  • A strong background in archival theory and practice, especially regarding arrangement and description.
  • Accurate record keeping and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement standards and best practices for cataloging and archival processing, including DACS, EAD, Dublin Core, LCSH, LC/NAF, AAT.
  • Experience using a collections management system like ArchivesSpace.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a production-oriented, team environment.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, OneNote) and project management software.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Experience with digital asset management systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with photographic materials, including silver gelatin prints and negatives, chromogenic prints, color slides, and transparencies preferred.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated engagement with performing arts history preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Work will primarily take place onsite. Limited offsite days may be accommodated.

The duties of this position require the ability to remove archival boxes weighing up to 60 lbs. from shelves, push fully loaded book or other work carts, climb ladders, re-shelve boxes, and bend or stoop as necessary. Containers may need to be shifted within storage areas for retrieval and processing.
