Role Overview: The Manager, Programming is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of temporary and full-time Artist Services Managers. This role requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of the performing arts industry. This position will act as a liaison between the institution, artists, production teams, and other staff members, ensuring the smooth operation of various productions and events.

Supervision and Coordination

  • Manage a team of Artist Services Managers and seasonal staff, providing guidance, support, and training as necessary.
  • Oversee the scheduling and assignments of Artist Services Managers for different productions and events.
  • Maintain regular communication with Artist Services Managers to ensure the effective execution of their duties and address any issues or concerns.

Artist and Production Support

  • Ensure that the Artist Services Managers are serving as the main point of contact for artists, and making sure the artists' needs and requirements are met throughout their engagement with the institution.
  • Oversee the coordination (and at times directly handle the logistics) for artists, including travel arrangements, accommodations, transportation, and hospitality.
  • Collaborate with production teams to facilitate smooth rehearsals, performances, and technical operations.
  • Ensure adherence to department budgets, timelines, and contractual obligations.

Administration and Operations

  • Maintain systems to track artist schedules, itineraries, and contact information.
  • Prepare and advise on budgets/expenses for Artist Services operations, including expenses related to travel, accommodations, and artist support.
  • Assist in the negotiation and execution of contracts and agreements with artists, vendors, and service providers.
  • Coordinate with Atrium producers and constituent venue managers to establish appropriate consistency in artist experience between performance venues.
  • Main liaison to the A&I team regarding housing, travel, and meal sponsorships.
  • Implement and enforce institutional policies and procedures to ensure the safety, well-being, and professional conduct of artists and staff.

Communication and Relationship Management

  • Foster positive relationships with artists, providing support, guidance, and resolving any issues or conflicts that may arise.
  • Collaborate with other departments to communicate relevant information, such as artist schedules, logistical details, and production updates.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with external stakeholders, such as visa agencies, venues, agents, and industry professionals.
  • Attend production meetings, artist briefings, and institutional events as required.

You'll be a great fit:

  • 3-5 years of experience in company management or producing within the performing arts industry, with a proven track record of managing complex productions and teams
  • 1-3 years of leadership experience managing a team
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with artists, staff members, and external stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, develop effective solutions, and make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment
