Position: Contemporary Programs Director

Role Overview: Reporting to the Chief Artistic Officer, the Contemporary Programs Director concentrates on bringing a diverse array of performing artists to Lincoln Center's campus. The focus may include modern and contemporary works in theater, dance, opera, as well as new and innovative artists and performances. The ideal candidate will possess over 10 years' experience curating, developing and producing contemporary performances in a mid-to-large size performing arts non-profit organizations or festival.

- Identify new and emerging artists, genres, mediums, and trends to ensure Lincoln Center continues to be a true leader in the field.
- Collaborate with Chief Artistic Officer on identifying themes and directions for series and festivals
- Commission new works that further Lincoln Center's mission to creative evolution and excellence.
- Working in close collaboration with Programming department leadership, develop ideas and projects to ensure that the overall program achieves its artistic and budget objectives
- Provide leadership across the Programming department
- Work alongside talented team in the planning and operational delivery of all aspects of the project to ensure each project achieves its intended outcome from an artistic and audience development perspective
- Develop budgets for projects, including detailed costing of expenditure, soliciting estimates from others and modelling various outcomes
- Provide expert insight into the development of marketing and publicity campaign plans and ensure the implementation is coordinated with all stakeholders
- Collaborate with the Legal department on the creation and revisions of contracts to remain timely and relevant.
- Negotiate deals and contracts with artists, agents, publishers and project partners, ensuring all salient matters are agreed and accurately recorded. Ensure that any and all contractual obligations, such as logistics and production riders are clearly defined with artists and communicated to operational staff
- Identify, and facilitate the application for, potential and relevant arts/cultural funding sources

You'll be a fit if you bring:
- 10+ years of experience curating, developing, and producing contemporary performances within mid-to-large performing arts non-profit organizations or festivals, complemented by a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Openness to moderate to frequent travel
- Experience curating or collaborating on a program of arts projects within the contemporary performance space
- Strong knowledge of new and contemporary trends in performing arts (domestic and international)
- Thorough knowledge of, and high-quality network of contacts within, the contemporary performance programming space, including but not limited to relevant arts festivals, venues, arts centers, arts companies and artists, both nationally and internationally
- Proven ability and experience in conducting successful daily interactions with international, national and local agents, promoters, venues and artists; including acting as a conduit between artists, promoters and co-presenters and a large, complex arts organization and/or venue
- Experience in developing and delivering audience development strategies
- Experience in developing and project budgets
- Successful track record managing a team of direct and indirect reports using persuasion and influence to achieve objectives
- Experience developing marketing and publicity strategies
- Experience negotiating and preparing contracts with artists, promoters and arts organizations
- Strong team, relationship management and leadership skills coupled with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in production management and/or managing artist logistics
