The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
The Chief of Staff and Underwriting Business Alignment Leader will support the aligned Office of Underwriting (OoU) President and the Executive team to oversee and deliver all segment priorities and activities. This will include managing the core governance structure for the OoU, organizational change management, setting and tracking goals, and ensuring that priorities are aligned across the Global Risk Solutions (GRS) framework. The role will lead and drive performance and accountability, collaborating with colleagues across GRS, and will ensure that actions are executed effectively with speed in pursuit of the functional and GRS goals.

Responsibilities include -
- Act as a senior-level advisor as well as a sounding board for ideas to the OoU President and executive team.
- Help the OoU President manage activities and deliverables within the wider GRS and OoU teams, driving performance and accountability across.
- Serve as a voice for the OoU objectives across the OoU and GRS functions to ensure that the priorities of the business as a whole are represented.
- Serve as the alignment leader for aligned OoU and work closely with the GRS Alignment community to represent functions perspectives while ensuring consistency with the practices and norms of GRS.
- Lead OoU-level projects that span multiple functions and silos to ensure cohesive and pragmatic delivery of business outcomes.
- Assist the OoU President and direct reports with managing priorities and identifying areas of business concern, including the delivery of OoU's and GRS's overall priorities.
- Work closely with the Internal Communications in managing the OoU President-related communications, as well as ensuring consistency across the LT communications.
- Identify and coordinate across areas to ensure that the OoU operates as an integrated business, fostering alignment within the Senior Leadership Team.
- Assess inquiries directed to the President to determine the proper course of action and delegate to the appropriate individual.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on the OoU, its business strategy, priorities, and activities as they relate externally and to the broader group.
- Manages a small team focused on alignment work, Global Product Board (enablement, programming, operations), SPM&C function for the OOU and overall support for the OOU.
- Coordinating point for GRS President of Underwriting and Office of Underwriting (OOU) LT more broadly.
- Sets calendar and cadence of OOU LT meetings.
- Coordinates across OOUT LT and supporting teams on cross-team activities.
- Engages with OOU LT on a regular one-to-one basis to ensure clarity at this level and to drive execution at the individual level, providing support as needed.
- Drives creation of meeting agendas, ensuring these contain pertinent items, key priorities, and works with OOU LT and wider team to ensure that materials for meetings are clear, concise and contain necessary information ? works through others by asking anticipated questions; reviewing materials; establishing timing; etc.
- Co-ordinate quarterly OoU offsites, working with the president of Underwriting, and the wider team, to set the agenda, create materials and ensure smooth execution and timely follow-up follow-ups.
- Drives for consistency across the OOU LT, in particular the Global Product Leaders (GPLs), such that when Segments come to execute activities driven by the GPLs, there is clarity and consistency. Examples: Setting out expectations for Global Product Planning, setting goals for Global Product Board members
- Prepares materials/presentations/talking points for GRS President of Underwriting. Examples: reinsurer presentations, broker conferences, client summits, etc.
- Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements and demonstrate behaviors in line with the company's core values, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Requires willingness to travel to attend key meetings, minimum quarterly
- Bachelor`s Degree required and 10-15 years of business experience with strong business and finance acumen. MBA or other relevant advanced degree desired.
- Strong leadership capabilities and the ability to engage, motivate, and manage a team.
- Strategic mindset and ability to work cross functionally at a fast pace.
- Elite stakeholder management skills, including demonstrable conflict resolution and alignment capabilities.
- Expert influencing skills, with a strong ability to build consensus among multiple levels and functions within the organization.
- Experience in a large international organization with the ability to manage relationships at all levels.
- Broad knowledge of complex matrix organizations with the ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence high-level executives from a broad range of cultures.
- Experience in leadership through service and a thorough understanding of the end-to-end operations of an international insurance organization.
