The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description
Examines high exposure, complex files in specialized areas of Workers Compensation, Liability, Special Claims, and Property areas to ensure proper coverage, reserves, file handling and disposition. Provides highly specialized technical knowledge to Branch Office, Division personnel, other departments, policyholders and at industry sponsored seminars.

Responsibilities
  • Performs all duties of the Claims Examiner but specializes in claims requiring a much higher degree of experience and technical knowledge.
  • Reviews regular files to determine if coverage properly exists for files. Researches and resolves complex coverage problems and may meet with policyholders in the field to review coverage issues.
  • Reviews claims within specialized area of expertise and maintains proper reserves on assigned cases/futurity.
  • Communicates with Legal, Sales, Underwriting, Loss Prevention, Auditing, Financial on a daily basis to offer advice on the specifics, exposures, defenses and handling of the specialty claims. Provides prompt updates to policyholders, reinsurers, excess carriers and others on file status, trial reporting and law changes.
  • Participates as an instructor in seminars, conferences and workshops within and outside the claims department. Serves as a technical specialist on industry committees and regulatory agencies.
  • May provide on-site supervision and knowledge of files and areas of responsibility at the division and/or branch office level. May negotiate settlements and provide recommendations on files above authority on files in Home Office and/or the field
Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Claims Department procedures and a demonstrated ability in specialized aspects of claims work
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent, plus 3-5 years of directly related claims examining experience or equivalent technical claims handling experience achieved through branch office management experience
