Job Summary

The Senior Analyst will be responsible for developing data products that translate research into business-facing solutions. Responsibilities include research and development of tools, models, and data products to support risk assessment in both residential and commercial business units. Active collaborations with other teams include groups with expertise in natural hazards, engineering, catastrophe modeling, and other insurance risks. This position will also support expanding demand for climate analytics, cyber risk, and casualty modeling working with thought leadership from senior management and our business partners.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collecting, analyzing and visualizing data for monitoring and reporting.
  • Performing in-depth analysis, interpretation, and visualization of third-party model data.
  • Creation of custom tools for non-modeled and poorly modeled risks as well as development of tools and novel techniques for evaluation of models and model results. This includes use of geospatial as well as other analytical products.
  • Support natural hazard, cyber, and casualty research and analytics.
  • Contributing to development and implementation of modeling methodologies to analyze and quantify catastrophe, cyber and casualty risk.
  • Identifying and designing potential loss causing scenarios to which the business and the organization may be exposed, including non-modeled or emerging risks.
  • Driving complex risk assessment projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Communicating research results and recommendations to senior management and business partners.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across departments to create, enhance, and integrate risk insights into strategic decision-making processes.
  • Data mining and conducting in-depth reviews of research literature, data, and models.
  • Contributing to establishing and maintaining effective relationships with external partners, such as universities, research centers, modeling vendors, reinsurers brokers, and other collaborators.
This position is under the Corporate Exposure Management team which sits within the Enterprise Risk Management department.

Ideal candidates will:
  • Have a strong background, through education and/or research, in data analytics and model development.
  • Have an education in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Finance/General Business is preferred but candidates with other backgrounds are considered.
  • Have an advanced degree (i.e., master's or PhD) and/or demonstrated experience in advancing complex projects and working with interdisciplinary teams is preferred.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in verbal and written communication to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Have coding experience (Python or R) is required.
  • Be experienced in geospatial analytics and working with GIS applications (e.g., ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, or QGIS) is preferred.
  • have superb data mining skills, with experience in working with large data sets.
  • Be experienced with SQL, visualization software (such as PowerBI or Tableau), or Catastrophe Modeling (i.e., Verisk, Moody's RMS, etc.) is a plus but not required.
  • 1 to 5 years of work experience is required.
Qualifications
  • College degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Finance/General Business or Engineering or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 5-7 years of catastrophic modeling and management reporting experience
  • Superb data mining skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SQL knowledge
  • Insurance and/or reinsurance background preferred
