The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Liberty Mutual Insurance has an exciting opportunity for a Privacy Counsel to join its growing global data privacy team supporting operations in over 20 countries. Reporting to the Lead Privacy Counsel, this fast-paced role requires knowledge of global privacy laws, solid communication skills, excellent legal research, and the ability to multi-task. This challenging position provides frequent opportunity to interface with Liberty employees at various levels across the Liberty organization. As a part of the Global Privacy team this role will champion data privacy best practices in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies.

We are seeking a privacy attorney with knowledge of US and global privacy laws. A successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively, escalate issues as needed and to provide clear written and verbal communications.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting legal research and analysis on existing and developing privacy laws and monitor and review new laws and regulations, including emerging requirements relating to Artificial Intelligence; identify and summarize relevant issues.
- Supporting cross-company global projects involving personal information.
- Provide advice and counsel to stakeholders and business partners on privacy matters, including advice on implementation of new requirements.
- Understand data privacy regulatory landscape and support business operations to ensure compliance with best practices and data protection laws, including minimizing any potential risk.
- Conducting privacy impact assessments and monitoring risk mitigation measures.
- Drafting and reviewing legal documents including third party vendor agreements to include privacy controls, data transfer agreements, and privacy notices and policies.
- Supporting third party risk management processes related to privacy.
- Drafting privacy notices and privacy policies.
- Assist with responses to subject access requests.
- Assisting with data classification and electronic record management efforts related to applications involving personal data.
- Identifying privacy training needs of Company personnel; develops and delivers training through various mechanisms including written materials, classroom, and presentations.
- Completion of law school with a J.D. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
- 2+ years legal experience in a law firm or an in-house legal department for a mid-to large-sized company.
- Knowledge and understanding of privacy laws, including GLBA, US, and European data protection laws.
- Ability to work independently on a wide range of counseling matters and exercise judgment to make reasoned risk-based decisions.
- CIPP/US or CIPP/EU certification preferred.
- Requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects.
