Principal Software Engineer

Pay Philosophy
The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

  • Lead a team of software engineers to support and maintain a critical customer service support application.
  • Represent the team as the Technical Lead to other business partners and engineering teams in our organization.
  • Maintain relationship with Product Owner and the business to support refinement of the backlog and advise on work priority.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call production support on a rotational basis with the team.
  • Work with Product Owner and Engineering Manager to develop software development best practices and implement them with the team.
  • Telecommuting permitted up to 60%.

Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical field and 10 years of experience in the job offered or in a Principal Software Engineer-related occupation.
Position requires demonstrable experience with each of the following:
  • REST
  • micro services
  • cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud)
  • GraphQL
  • React (JavaScript or TypeScript)
  • NodeJS
  • Express
  • Front-end web development using React (JavaScript or TypeScript), HTML, and CSS
  • Object Oriented Programming (OOP) such as Java or C# .NET
  • Java Web Application development using Struts, Spring Boot, IBM WebSphere, and SOAP
  • Functional and system integration testing
  • Working in an agile environment utilizing Scrum, Kanban, or XP; CI/CD tools such as Bamboo and DevOps tools including Git version control and Observability tools such as Splunk or Datadog.
  • Telecommuting permitted up to 60%.
