The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
- Contribute to the development and review of global risk engineering strategy, and risk engineering policies and processes.
- Partner with one or more lines of business, including attending meetings with underwriting management and inputting to decisions.
- Working independently, plan, organize and perform desk-based risk appraisals for assigned line/s of business to provide risk analysis information to underwriters, and conduct on-site risk engineering surveys for existing and prospective clients as required by the business.
- Produce and share both summary and detailed risk survey reports.
- Follow up on key recommendations and ensure risk engineering information on file is up to date.
- Provide technical input on claims, including reviewing reports and site visits to identify areas for claims mitigation and recommendations for improvement.
- Support with business development and marketing of the products within the line of business where possible.
- Maintain strong working relationships with managers and leaders within Underwriting, Claims and other functions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of external market developments and trends and make recommendations for how these could be factored into policies and processes.
- Mentor, technically train and informally supervise the work of more junior colleagues, act as a point of escalation.
- Position requires international travel up to 60%.
- Telecommuting permitted up to 60%.

Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 10 years of experience in the job offered or in a Principal Risk Engineer-related occupation.
Position also requires demonstrable experience in the following:
- Expert technical knowledge in Power generation and renewables, specifically in Latin America.
- Experience within the insurance sector in Latin American markets including Brazil.
- Communicating important technically related information within Risk Engineering, Underwriting and Claims groups.
- Advance level research, evaluation and analysis skills.
- Marketing skills to participate in new/renewal business development.
- Position requires international travel up to 60%.
- Telecommuting permitted up to 60%.
