Description
US Retail Markets (USRM) Reserving team is seeking a highly motivated people leader to lead a new Personal Auto Liability State Reserving team. In this position, you will have significant business impact by leading a team to create state level reserve analyses and planning inputs for key states, coordinating and aligning across several functions including State Management, Personal Lines (PL) Auto Analytics, Countrywide Reserving, Actuarial Reserve Modeling, and Claims.

You will work closely with PL Auto Analytics and Auto State Management to understand key areas of risk and trends for key states, perform in-depth state reserving analyses leveraging a variety of methods including claim-level models, and communicate and gain buy-in with their state partners. Your work will help drive better loss and ALAE accuracy at the state level and ultimately contribute to our USRM goal of accurate state level P&Ls. This position will report directly to the Chief Reserving Actuary and will lead a team of 3 direct reports.

A successful candidate must excel at leading complex projects, solving analytical problems, have good business judgment and influencing skills, be comfortable owning and driving projects that receive significant visibility, and possess the ability to explain such work in business contexts. Good collaboration and communication skills are essential as there will be a significant level of interaction with other functional areas (e.g. PL Auto Analytics, State Management, Claims) as well as senior leadership.

This position may have in-office requirements based on candidate location.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner closely with State Management to identify and understand key states at a granular level.
  • Leverage existing data, analyses and models, as well as design new analysis to analyze state loss development.
  • Clearly explain key analytical assumptions and conclusions in business terms and help gain buy-in for its accuracy so that it can be used to drive decisions in market.
  • Create a culture of innovation to build and enhance analysis and tools, as well as create efficiencies in our processes.

Ideal candidate will possess:
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in an analytically driven environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt well to the changing needs of the organization.
  • Solid understanding of P&C actuarial reserving techniques, standards and assumptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to broad audiences.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Liberty's Values, including a focus on continuous improvement and creating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or near-FCAS designation preferred
  • 5-10 years progressively responsible experience, including supervisory experience
  • Ability to foster teamwork and relationships across organizational line
  • Knowledge of underwriting concepts including company/agency relationships' importance to the business success.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively express technical actuarial and statistical concepts to non-technical individuals internal and external to the organization
  • Advanced decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Expands/maintains Actuarial professional knowledge through society (CAS/AAA) publications and meetings/conferences
