The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description
As a Laboratory Technician you will be responsible for managing and maintaining rental and field industrial hygiene equipment. The laboratory technician will also assist the chemists in the preparation and analysis of samples for Liberty Mutual Industrial hygiene staff as well as external lab clients. This position will develop an understanding and knowledge of calibration of IH equipment, noise dosimeters, laboratory processes and will take on more responsibilities related to sample analysis as the candidate matures in the role. The role will also require data abstraction from the submitted chains of custody while performing quality control maximizing field and lab efficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Managing and servicing all Liberty Mutual's Industrial Hygiene equipment. Updates made to Microsoft access and excel inventories/ calibration records databases.
  • Coordinate noise dosimeter rental with clients and deliver reports to clients after sampling.
  • Support self-sampling requests through the Liberty Mutual pump loan program including pump calibration and client consultation.
  • Assemble and prepare air sampling media for industrial hygienists and external clients.
  • Perform gravimetric analysis of air samples prior to preparation of sample for contaminant specific analysis.
  • Collaborate with chemist to prep batches for analysis.
  • Utilize the Lab Information Management System (LIMS) to complete data entry of submitted samples.
  • Written and verbal interaction with clients will be necessary to coordinate sampling equipment rental and support media requests.
Key Capabilities and Characteristics:
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience is required.
  • Previous industrial hygiene/ analytical laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently are all strong attributes of a successful candidate.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Able to easily adopt new technology.
*This position will be 100% on-site

  • Knowledge of risk improvement, occupational disease (OD) risk assessment & control
  • Effective problem-solving, research and analytical skills
  • Effective written communication skills for documenting plans, preparing reports and exchanging information
  • Effective oral communication skills for interaction with diverse audiences
  • Ability to readily adapt and work effectively with others
  • Knowledge, skills and other capabilities normally acquired through a Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field
