The Position

Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) seeks a Director I, Data Steward to evolve governance, quality, integrity, and timeliness of operational and analytics data. This role will establish and enforce enterprise data policies, standards, and best practices to drive strategic data management initiatives. This role encompasses various domains including: Portfolio Transactions and Holdings with a focus on Accounting Book of Record data. The Data Steward is also responsible for coverage and quality of critical data elements related to master data and analytics.

Responsibilities:
  • Independently work on implementing, automating, and strengthening data management and data quality controls within a central and federated data steward model.
  • Identify quality metrics and thresholds by working with the business data owners and users. As a recognized subject matter expert, owns and publishes reports related to quality metrics along with root cause analysis and mitigation options to the end user community.
  • Identify and manage the resolution of complex data quality issues in a timely fashion.
  • Consults on the management of data throughout its lifecycle from creation to retirement by participating in the development, definition, and execution of policies, guidelines, and quality control procedures for the reporting and dissemination of data.
  • Demonstrate a mastery over multiple domains (i.e. MDM, lineage, data security, data quality, etc.) in solving business use cases. Works with stakeholders to define metrics that are impactful for the business.
  • Develop and define data validation, verification, and reconciliation strategies to support data governance, stewardship, and security.
Qualifications
  • At least 10-15 years of experience in asset management or financial services, including extensive experience with portfolio relevant data and analytics.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to analyze complex problems, identify patterns, and develop insights that can inform business decisions.
  • Strong technical expertise: You should possess a high level of understanding of financial industry and in particular asset management internal and external data set content, expertise in data analytics, data management, and data modeling. You should be proficient in programming languages such as both Python and SQL. Knowledge of data visualization tools, such as Power BI, is also desirable.
  • Strong domain knowledge: Demonstrate a mastery over multiple domains (i.e. ABOR, IBOR, MDM, lineage, data quality, etc.) in solving business use cases. Develop and define data validation, verification, and reconciliation strategies to support data governance, stewardship, and security.
  • Financial Industry Expertise: You should have a deep understanding of financial industry master data, market data, and portfolio analytics. You should be familiar with the financial instruments and the various financial data sources in the asset management industry.
  • Data Governance and Management: You should be well-versed in data governance principles and should have experience in developing and implementing data governance policies and procedures and standards.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: You should possess strong problem-solving skills and be able to design and implement solutions to complex data management challenges.
  • Organizational Skills: Demonstrate ability to define, organize and roadmap multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills: You should have excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with different teams within the organization, such as IT, investment management, operations, finance, and compliance as well as externally with data and platform solutions providers.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills, and the demonstrated ability guide a diverse team are essential for this position.
