The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description
The Liberty Mutual, Global Risk Solutions, DSS is seeking a Data Scientist/ Senior Data Scientist within the Global Products and Surety team. The Global Products and Surety team is responsible for championing the future of Data Science, helping incubate new ideas and encouraging innovation across Global Risk Solutions markets, with a strong focus on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to drive business value. The team is looking for a passionate individual who is full of curiosity, open to new ideas, and willing to fail fast and embrace a culture of experimentation. This individual will join our Agile team and play an essential role in building out in-house AI/ML capabilities and be involved in the end-to-end product cycle, from ideation to model development/deployment to field implementation.   • Design and fine-tune large language model-based predictions to glean valuable insights from different kinds of unstructured data.
  • Design and develop advanced computer vision models to detect property hazards from aerial imagery datasets to aid pricing and risk selection.
  • Develop and adopt the best-in-class MLOps best practices throughout the data science lifecycle.
The actual internal level/grade/title for this role will depend on the candidate's overall experience and skill level.

This position may have in-office requirements depending on candidate location.

Responsibilities:
  • Buildout in-house AI/ML products with other team members, including data scientists, IT developers, and business stakeholders
  • Research and develop computer vision, NLP, and other AI/ML models including LLMs, VLMs and GenAI applications to improve risk selection, pricing and other applications
  • Collaborate with business partners to develop data science solutions that enable data-driven strategic decision-making
  • Utilize data science techniques to manipulate structured and unstructured data sets, identify patterns in raw data, and develop models to optimize business solutions.
  • Collaborate with other data science teams across the company to promote best practices and reproducible work
  • Act as a mentor and help develop less experienced data scientists, analysts or interns on the team
Qualifications
  • Solid knowledge of predictive analytics techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.
  • Advance knowledge of predictive toolset; expert resource for tool development.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Has a value-driven perspective with regard to understanding of work context and impact.
  • Competencies typically acquired through a Master's degree (scientific field of study) and 0-1 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree (scientific field of study) and 3+ years of relevant experience.
