Description and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Solaris and Linux Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. This individual will be responsible for managing and maintaining our Solaris and Linux-based infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability of our systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with both Solaris and Linux operating systems, as well as a strong understanding of system administration, troubleshooting, and automation techniques.

You Will:
• Manage and support Solaris and Linux servers, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
• Perform regular system updates and patches to ensure optimal performance and security.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and apply corrective actions.
• Implement and enforce security best practices on Solaris and Linux servers.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
• Implement and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Test and validate system recovery procedures to ensure data integrity in case of failure.
• Analyse system performance metrics and make recommendations for improvements.
• Provide troubleshooting and technical support for server-related issues.
• Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
• Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
• Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
• Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Prepare and present regular reports on system health, performance, and security.

You Bring:
• 5+ years Solaris & Linux experience required.
Strong experience with Solaris (versions 9, 10, 11) and Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or other distributions)
• Proficient in system installation, configuration, and administration.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, LDAP, Kerberos, and other networking protocols.
• Experience with storage management, RAID configurations, and SAN/NAS solutions.
• Strong understanding of security principles, such as hardening, encryption, and access control.
• Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR).
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Flexible, team player, "get-it-done" personality
• Ability to organize and plan work independently
• Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
• Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams
Certification such as RHCE, LPIC, or Solaris 10/11 System Administrator.
