Description and Requirements
Job Summary:
The L2 Oracle/ Unix Production Support Specialist is responsible for providing second-level technical support for Oracle databases and Unix-based systems. The role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues, performing regular system maintenance, and ensuring the stability and performance of the systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Incident Management:
- Monitor Oracle databases and Unix related batch programs for any issues or performance anomalies.
- Respond to and resolve incidents escalated from L1 support within SLA timeframes.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement permanent fixes.
- System Maintenance:
- Perform regular maintenance activities such as backups, patching, and updates.
- Apply configuration changes to optimize performance and security.
- Ensure systems are compliant with security policies and procedures.
- Database Management:
- Monitor database performance and optimize SQL queries and indexes.
- Manage database storage, including tablespaces and data files.
- Perform database recovery and restore operations as needed.
- Application Support:
- Support multiple Front-End applications, including debugging and modifying code as necessary (SQL Programming/Unix Scripting).
- Collaborate with development teams to deploy new applications and updates.
- Ensure seamless integration of applications with other systems.
- Manage Unix-based batch programs.
- Automate routine tasks using shell scripting or other automation tools.
- Monitor system logs and address hardware or software issues.
- Performance Monitoring:
- Monitor system and application performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks.
- Analyze performance trends and recommend optimizations.
- Implement and maintain monitoring tools and scripts.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with L3 support, development teams, and other IT departments to resolve complex issues.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide support during non-business hours as required.
- Documentation:
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including troubleshooting guides and standard operating procedures.
- Document changes and update configuration management records.
- Training and Mentoring:
- Provide guidance and support to L1 support staff.
- Conduct training sessions for team members and end-users as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Oracle/Unix production support or related roles.
- Experience with Oracle databases (e.g., Oracle 8i and above) and Unix-based batch programs/scripts.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
- Strong knowledge of Unix shell scripting.
- Experience with Oracle performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience with backup and recovery tools and procedures.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Oracle Database Administration
- Familiarity with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks.
- Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
Working Conditions:
- 24x7 Support setup.
- Hybrid work setup with occasional requirements for evening and weekend work.
- Participation in on-call support rotation.
