Description and Requirements

Lenovo's Standard-Essential Patent (SEP) Team is looking for a talented, highly motivated and dynamic 5G SEP Patent Portfolio Manager to be based in the US, to manage Lenovo's extremely valuable global SEP patent portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage a global SEP portfolio, including interacting with global 5G research teams to harvest high-value cellular SEPs
  • Manage/review global outside counsel to draft and file new PCT and national patent applications and prosecute pending global patent applications
  • Manage/produce SEP claim charts using knowledge of standards technical specifications
  • Provide inventor training and education about patent laws and internal processes
  • Review portfolio to track current spend for new filings, prosecution, and annuity payments
  • Support patent licensing, litigation, and complex business transactions by providing patent portfolio analysis, due diligence, infringement and invalidity analysis, and claim charting

Required Qualifications and Experiences

  • Bachelor's Degree in science and technology (preferably majoring in Communications, Electrical, or Computer Engineering) with strong academic credentials
  • US Patent Agent qualification
  • 8+ years of experience in patent drafting, filing, prosecution and portfolio management of a global portfolio, preferably in a patent department of a global technology company or an international patent law firm.
  • Possess deep telecommunications/cellular technical knowledge including experience drafting claims that cover cellular standards.

Preferred Qualifications and Experiences

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a familiarity with working with different cultures across different time zones.
  • The candidate will need to work effectively with our technical business leadership, the global SEP patent team, the larger Lenovo IP legal team, and outside counsel to provide patent portfolio services effectively and efficiently to benefit our Lenovo business units.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written
  • Independently manage high complexity tasks in patent related matters to assist with various business groups
  • In depth understanding of PCT, US, and China patent practice, filing and prosecution strategies, including software and cellular standards patentability worldwide
  • Commitment to high moral standards and business ethics
  • Top notch communication, teambuilding, organization, and operational skills with internal stakeholders and external parties to achieve business goals
  • Strong ability to identify challenges and develop and adapt to changes to achieve business and corporate goals
  • Strategic thinker with a broad perspective, and an analytical thinker with enough creativity to synthesize new and automated processes and solutions to old problems.
  • J.D. Degree from an accredited US law school with current US bar membership
  • Fluency in Mandarin for effective verbal communication with PRC based inventors
  • Experience in Patent Claim Charting, SEP licensing and litigation in US and Europe focused on high tech products, including cell phones, PCs and/or consumer electronics
  • 3+ years of technical experience as an engineer for a consumer electronics company
  • In depth understanding of standards around other wireless and audio/video codec technologies, e.g. WiFi and WiMAX, HEVC and VVC

We are open to this role being worked remote for someone located in the US.

The base salary budgeted range for this position is $160,000 - $175,000. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission. Lenovo's various benefits can be found on www.lenovobenefits.com.
