Description and Requirements

  • Responsibilities include leading a mechanical team of in-house and outsourced design engineers responsible for designing printed circuit board layouts, structural sheet metal enclosures, and plastic part designs in our next generation servers.
  • You will work with architects to close on a design concept, then develop and validate the design.
  • Candidate must be capable of creating designs, evaluating other team member's designs, and solving design bugs when they arise.
  • Candidate must be able to work in a close team environment, interacting with the thermal, power, system, and extended team members, to achieve a design, which meets the business and marketing requirements.
  • In addition, this candidate will be responsible for contributing to common building block designs used across our portfolio.
  • You will report weekly project status to management.
  • Technical skills required include three dimensional computer design engineering skills, including sheet metal, plastic part and waterloop design.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of ten (10) years' experience using the PTC Creo CAD tool and PTC Windchill for CAD data file management.
  • This position requires proficiency using Microsoft products including spreadsheets, email, and instant message, and Sharepoint database.
  • Skills to manage engineering changes, bill of material creation, cost estimating and tolerance analysis is required.
  • Knowledge of server industry standards and compliance industry standards is expected. Hands on experience with assembling and testing servers, and using basic mechanical tools is a plus.
  • A BSME degree is required.
  • Non-technical skills required for this position include strong communication skills for negotiating design details that support the product marketing requirements.
  • Strong written skills are required to document mechanical specifications for the product, and reports of test results.
  • This candidate must have an understanding of marketing requirements, and the ability to implement them into robust, cost effective designs.
  • This position requires ability to interact effectively with suppliers, and to advise and delegate design deliverables.
  • Creative thinking, problem-solving capability, leadership skills, and teaming skills are also required.
  • This is not a project management position, but having strong organization skills are required to lead a project team.
