We are looking for a Substation CAD Drafter to work a hybrid schedule out of our Houston office.

You will work under the supervision of our CAD Lead/Manager and will also work directly with substation design engineers, designers, and other drafters in a fast paced environment to complete drafting and detailing tasks using MicroStation and AutoCAD software for several utility clients. This position requires solid fundamental CAD drafting knowledge and skills to efficiently complete some complex assignments and produce top-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities - In this job position the qualified individual will be expected to:

  • Complete routine, medium complexity drafting tasks, following client and local standard procedures.
  • Create and modify drawings using engineering markups with a high level of attention to details on the following drawing types:
    • Protection & Control, SCADA, and Communications drawings such as building/panel/cabinet layouts, one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other related drawings.
    • Physical Electrical drawings such as plans, section and elevations, details, and other related drawings.
  • Work efficiently and be highly organized.
  • Complete tasks on time in a fast paced engineering/production environment.
  • Adhere to all applicable CAD standards and procedures.
  • Consistently return top quality work products to the engineering team.
  • Complete non-routine drafting tasks with supervision.

Core Qualifications - The following are required to qualify for this position:

  • Associate of Applied Science in Drafting and Design degree from an accredited institution. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 1-3+ years of industry-related drafting and detailing experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Solid understanding of drafting principles, techniques and procedures.
  • Proficiency with the manipulation of vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Ability to create and/or modify drawings from engineer-provided markups with a high level of attention to details.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating system environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Experience with document management and collaboration tools such as ProjectWise, FTP, SharePoint, etc.
  • Strong professional verbal and written communication skills within a team environment.
  • Highly organized and efficient.
  • Ability to understand and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a fast paced engineering/production environment.

Additional Qualifications - The following are also considered to qualify for this position:

  • Experience with 3-D modelling in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of VBA and/or Auto Lisp.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $37,050.00 - $66,975.00
