Primary Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for evaluating weapon system designs for potential safety impacts. In this role, they will primarily utilize MIL-STD-882 guidance to conduct safety analyses, ensuring that designs meet safety standards and mitigate any risks associated with the operation, handling, and use of military and defense systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in safety analysis of military or defense-related systems, demonstrating a solid understanding of risk management and system safety principles as they apply to complex weapon systems.

Basic Qualifications
Candidate must have good organizational skills, attention to detail and work well as a key member of a team often tasked to be highly responsive and agile in order to satisfy critical program needs.
The candidate must have experience in the following areas:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in system safety analysis for military or defense systems or 6+ years with MS degree.
- Proficiency in applying MIL-STD-882 and other relevant safety standards to system designs.
- Experience with hazard analysis techniques (e.g., Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Analysis).
- Strong understanding of risk management principles and their application to weapon system safety.
- Knowledge of weapon system lifecycle processes, including design, testing, and operational deployment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting findings.
- Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
- Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Master's degree in Engineering, System Safety, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with weapon system test and evaluation (e.g., live-fire testing, simulation exercises).
- Experience integrating Human Factors Engineering (HFE) into system safety processes, particularly for military systems.
- Prior experience working with weapon systems, munition systems, or military aviation systems.
- Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and related safety documentation requirements.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity risks and mitigation strategies as they relate to weapon systems.
- Certification in System Safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified System Safety Practitioner (CSSP)).
- Experience in leading cross-functional safety reviews with stakeholders, including safety case development and safety certification processes.
- Knowledge of international safety standards and regulations that apply to defense systems, beyond U.S. MIL-STD-882.
- Active security clearance

Pay Range:
Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00
