Leidos is seeking a senior environmental professional (scientist/engineer) with PFAS expertise to support our environmental investigation, restoration, and compliance services related to PFAS. The ideal candidate is familiar with CERCLA and RCRA investigations and has in-depth familiarity with various aspects of PFAS. The candidate could be a generalist with knowledge across a range of PFAS technical areas or a specialist with in-depth knowledge of a certain PFAS technical areas (e.g., remediation technology, chemistry, fate & transport, detection and analysis, forensics, governance). The ability to work independently but also excel at working collaboratively is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

The role entails providing guidance and technical support across our portfolio of PFAS project. You will work with our PFAS Practice Lead to shape and direct our PFAS practice services. You will interact and be supported by our PFAS Advisory Team and PFAS Community of Practice. A key aspect of the role is to help maintain consistency across our portfolio of PFAS work, including factors such as technical excellence, technical approach, data visualization, data-driven conclusions and recommendations. Your efforts will directly impact our continued ability to meet and exceed client needs by helping to ensure that Leidos remains at the forefront of the industry in terms of technology, chemistry, remediation, regulations, characterization, detection and analysis.

Over the decades we have helped to address some of the nation's most challenging environmental restoration and compliance issues. Our work spans the US and its territories, from large complex radiological studies to preliminary assessments at remote islands OCONUS. We began investigating PFAS in 2013 and have completed or are completing PFAS projects in almost every state and territory, at over 130 sites, and with tasks ranging from preliminary assessments to remedial actions. We serve numerous federal and commercial clients, though our primary clients are U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Air Force, Army and Air National Guard, NASA, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of Energy.

Primary Responsibilities:

The role and responsibility for the position are expected to evolve and adapt to the candidate's strengths and interests over time. The following presents the range of likely tasks and responsibilities for the position.

  • Support numerous projects concurrently by providing technical guidance, technical review, aid in technical project planning, present technical summaries and/or lead technical discussions (related to PFAS) during project meetings, client meetings, and public meetings
  • Ensure that Leidos PFAS standard operating procedures remain current and directly relevant
  • Support PFAS Practice Lead with development and execution of strategic plans for the PFAS portfolio with respect to technical excellence, client development, and continued market growth
  • Work with project teams, PFAS staff, and/or independently to develop conference presentations, white papers, and/or journal articles related to PFAS.
  • Interface with project teams, clients, and public to provide technical guidance and support.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of current state of the science and regulatory environment via continued education, research, and involvement with trade-groups (eg., ITRC, SAME, NGWA, ASCE, etc.)

What Sets You Apart:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, chemistry, biology, environmental engineering, or relevant field and at least 10 years' experience in the environmental field.
  • Advanced experience and technical proficiency conducting PFAS environmental restoration and compliance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to work independently with little supervision. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple staff across diverse range of disciplines.
  • Proven experience leading technical discussions with project teams, clients, and public.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).
  • A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to travel domestically for client meetings and/or potential site visits up to 15% of the time.

Must be able to obtain access to, and conduct work on, U.S. Government installations. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required.

You Might Also Have:

  • Advanced knowledge of environmental characterization and restoration for PFAS.
  • Experience with AFCEC, USACE, NGB, and/or SERDP/ESTCP.
  • Master's degree in relevant discipline and 15+ years of experience in the environmental field.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations and poster presentations at conferences. Ability to author technical white papers, journal articles, and abstracts
  • Licensure as a professional engineer, professional geologist, project manager, or environmental professional.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $89,700.00 - $162,150.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
