Description

Leidos has a Science Coordinator opportunity with the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) supporting NASA's Human Systems Engineering & Integration Department at JSC, through technical support for provisioning tasks supporting the flight food system for International Space Station (ISS)

Travel is not anticipated for this position, all work is assumed to take place at Johnson Space Center within the Space Food Systems Laboratory. Tasks include, but are not limited to: physical analysis of flight food components (moisture, pH, water activity, etc.), environmental testing prior to production work, and other science support tasks as assigned.

US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory analyses as required to support food production, including food component sampling/testing and environmental sampling
  • Provide analyses support for research projects, as required
  • Review analysis processes and contribute to the development of SOPs for defined testing
  • Become proficient in standard laboratory assays and protocols
  • Ensure analytical equipment is verified routinely and calibrated annually
  • Conduct sensory testing as required for acceptance of Class I ingredients and production lots
  • Assist with preparation of data summary charts, as required
  • May participate in human subject testing
  • Attend weekly laboratory meetings, as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related science (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Food Science, Microbiology)
  • 1.5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Highly organized, analytical, keen attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Process-oriented and quality focus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in laboratory analysis of food, or quality assurance experience in a food production setting
  • Demonstrated experience in vacuum oven moisture analysis, pH, water activity, and/or environmental sampling

Pay Range:

Pay Range $53,950.00 - $97,525.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
