The Digital Modernization Sector has a career opportunity for a Release Train Engineer supporting the Global Solutions Management - Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at DISA. This contract includes the Operations, Sustainment, Maintenance, Repair, and Defense of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) within the DOD Information Network (DODIN) in support of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). It also includes support to other key tasks for DISA, including the transformation of DISA's operational mission through innovation, and support to DISA's mission partners.

Candidate must be able to be on site at Fort Meade, Scott AFB, or Hill AFB daily. At a minimum, a Secret clearance is required upon the start of employment and within 14 days following the start date the employee must obtain their Security + certification.

The Release Train Engineer is responsible for working within a fast paced, Agile team to verify and validate changes made to the system as well as develop more efficient and modern test techniques and processes. The Release Train Engineer will be responsible for facilitating ART practices and PI execution. They will escalate impediments, manage risk, and help ensure value delivery and relentless improvement. The RTEs will also often participate in the Lean-Agile transformation, coaching leaders, teams, and Scrum Master/Team Coaches in the new mindset and processes. They will also help adapt SAFe to the organization's needs, standardizing and documenting practices. The RTE will also be responsible for identifying and resolving impediments, facilitating communication and collaboration among team members, and ensuring that the release train is aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • This role requires an experienced Agile Leader to take on Release Train Engineer responsibilities for an Agile Release Train (ART). You will be a critical driving force within the team for optimizing flow and pushing for improvement using the implementation of a Lean/Agile mindset. Some of the primary responsibilities will include:
  • Provide coaching and guidance on Agile principles and practice to teams and individuals
  • Develop and deliver Agile training and workshops to teams and individuals
  • Managing and optimizing the flow of value through an Agile Release Train (ART)
  • Facilitate the Agile Release Train (ART) and ensure that it is running smoothly and efficiently
  • Work closely with the Program Manager, Scrum Masters, and other stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and execute the release train's objectives
  • Identify and resolve impediments that may be blocking the progress of the release train
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among team members, including Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Development Team members
  • Ensure that the release train is aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives
  • Facilitate events such as Program Increment (PI) Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and Inspect and Adapt
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovations with the team which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings.
  • Develop and maintain reports and metrics to track the progress of the release train
  • Collaborate with other RTEs to share best practices and improve the overall Agile program
  • Facilitating cross-team collaboration within program via Scrum of Scrums meeting and other less formal forums in support development, testing, and deployment efforts
  • Summarizing Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publishing them for visibility and transparency
  • Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities through Metrics across the program's agile and DevOps teams.
  • Briefing customer on development progress throughout PI cycle and on the status of testing, deployment, and release readiness
  • Acquiring understanding of the large complex program and assess risk and understand varied customer
  • Participate in the development of the Agile program's strategy and vision
  • Promoting teamwork to achieve PI goals.
  • Leading the teams towards agile maturity
  • Escalating and tracking impediments
  • Providing input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a US Citizenship.
  • Hold and active security certification that meets DOD 8570 IAT level II or higher (i.e., Security+)
  • Must hold an active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to commute to Scott AFB, IL, Ft. Meade, MD, or Ogden, UT for full time on-site support
  • Bachelor's Degree with 12 - 15 years of relevant experience or master's with 10-13 years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of work experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
  • Certification in SAFe or Agile methodologies (e.g. CSM, CSPO, RTE)
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and practices including Scrum
  • Experience working with an Agile software development team, managing project deadlines (ideally in a Scrum Master, or Development role)
  • Experience briefing leadership and/or customers of key status of project progression.
  • Experience communicating with and briefing status to external stakeholders, including customer representatives.
  • Experience using agile project management tools (e.g., Jira)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time extremely well, and quickly sense when an issue needs to be discussed or triaged.
  • Experience with mentoring and coaching team members
  • Strong analytics and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with metrics and reporting to track progress and identify areas of improvements.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, as focus on task completion is critical.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of ITIL foundation or ITIL certified
  • Experience with cloud-based AWS services
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools
  • Possesses experience with AI capabilities, Elastic, Kafka, configuration management and maintenance of the AWS cloud-based platform.
  • AWS cloud certifications.
  • Experience managing or leading a geographically dispersed team.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $112,450.00 - $203,275.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
