Description

The Leidos Research Support Team supporting the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is seeking an engineering geologist with experience in geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide. This is an opportunity to execute fundamental and applied research with world-class scientists and engineers using state of the art equipment to perform research aligned with the goals of the U.S. Department of Energy, including carbon management and resource identification. The successful candidate will promote good practices and build technical capacity of state underground injection programs, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regions and Class VI permit applicants.

Location: This position may be remote, however the selected candidate must be able to travel up to 35% to the NETL lab in Pittsburgh, PA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop expertise in regional geology and maintain basin-scale awareness and tracking of Class VI developments.
  • Provide technical assistance to EPA regional staff through Class VI permit application reviews, leveraging National Lab colleagues and identifying Class VI permitting process improvements.
  • Serve as a liaison between Class VI permit applicants and EPA's regional office.
  • Support EPA's contribution to interagency coordination and outreach efforts related to Class VI permitting.
  • Develop and deliver technical training and other capacity building methods to EPA and state programs.
  • Support the federal technical assistance program through improvement identification, coordination, communication and facilitation.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Geology or Reservoir Engineering with 6+ years of experience.
  • Experience with subsurface geological evaluations for Carbon Capture and Storage.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and geologist with subsurface characterization and modeling.
  • Experience with one or more basins in the North America.
  • Experience in data analysis, report development, scientific writing, and presentation of results.
  • Experience making data-driven decisions that impact carbon sequestration and hydrocarbon exploration.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements for gaining access to work on the NETL campus.
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to travel up to 35%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reservoir modeling and simulations.
  • Experience publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Experience writing Class VI permit applications based on well characterization and modelling results.

Salary Range for this position: $120K to $130K

Pay Range:

Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
