Description

The Mechanical Manufacturing Facility, at Leidos Inc, is seeking a highly skilled Lead Quality Engineer to oversee Quality Engineering efforts on key AS9100 programs within a machine shop environment.
This role is responsible for leading a team of Quality Engineers, driving quality assurance activities, ensuring compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. The Lead Quality Engineer will work with cross-functional teams to ensure product integrity and compliance throughout the product lifecycle. Candidate will perform quality planning, analyze program QA requirements, develop inspection/test procedures and process plans, coordinate review of nonconformance documentation and lead root cause/corrective action. Other key duties include reviewing AS9102 FAI documentation, working with internal/external customers and other government quality assurance agencies. The candidate will collect and report quality metrics, develop technical data packages, supporting project managers during design, manufacturing readiness reviews, incorporating feedback to enhance ease of manufacturing. Must possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Primary Responsibilities
• Support all quality aspects of programs, including manufacturing operations, inspection, non-conformances, root cause investigation, and internal/third-party audits.
• Establish and implement metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring Quality Control system effectiveness.
• Lead root-cause analysis and problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
• Develop quality planning methods for all product lines within the machine shop.
• Initiate and implement quality improvement activities (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to enhance the performance of the plant's product lines.
• Report to Quality Management on quality issues, trends, and losses.
• Participate in internal quality audits and ensure all operation steps are followed per instructions.
• Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning quality control problems and assure effective corrective action implementation.
• Review AS9102 FAI documentation.
• Collect and report Quality Metrics, review and approve new drawings, and support project managers during design and manufacturing readiness reviews (PDR, CDR, APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA).
• Lead and mentor a team of Quality Engineers supporting AS9100 programs, assigning responsibilities, setting priorities, and providing guidance on quality-related tasks.
• Develop and support training programs to enhance team capabilities.
• Ensure adherence to AS9100, customer, and regulatory requirements across the program.
• Drive First Article Inspections (FAIs), PPAP, and process validations per industry standards.
• Support Design Reviews, Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRRs), and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs).
• Lead customer audits, source inspections, and quality reviews.
• Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability of designs, incorporating feedback to enhance ease of manufacturing.
• Utilize metrics and data analysis to identify trends, drive improvements, and reduce defects.
• Champion a culture of quality and accountability within the organization.
• All other reasonable duties, as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent degree with 8-12 years of prior relevant work experience or Masters degree with 6-10 years of prior relevant work experience. In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 15 years of experience in quality engineering under an AS9100 system or equivalent experience in DOD, Aerospace, or Automotive manufacturing quality control will be considered.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure accurate inspection and compliance with design specifications.
• Candidate must have experience working with non-conforming material, performing failure analysis, identifying root cause, and implementing corrective action.
• Candidate must have experience writing work instructions, procedures, and implementing QMS documentation associated with AS9100.
• Candidate must be able to review and interpret contract quality clauses and technical data and develop and document appropriate quality verification procedures, plans, and work instructions, including AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
• Experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook) is required.
• Candidate must be able to lift to 25 lbs.
• The position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
List additional skills and experience that is "nice to have" but not required.
• Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or AS9100 Lead Auditor certification.
• Experience with DoD, NASA, or hypersonic programs.
• Familiarity with APQP, MSA, and digital transformation initiatives in quality

Pay Range:

Pay Range $89,700.00 - $162,150.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
