The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos is currently pursuing a new opportunity and has an opening for a Platform Engineer to work in San Diego, California. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Enterprise Development, Application, and Training (EDAT) mission. In this mission we are focused on providing innovative, data-driven solutions and enterprise architecture enhancements to enable seamless operations across USSOCOM's global network. The program emphasizes rapid development and deployment of technologies to enhance the mobility and readiness of Special Operations Forces (SOF) in both combat and non-combat scenarios. Key tasks include program management, application development, training support, and technology integration to maintain USSOCOM's operational edge. The EDAT program underscores agility and adaptability, ensuring SOF professionals have access to the information and tools they need to meet evolving mission requirements.

Primary Responsibilities.

  • Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and efficient IT infrastructure to support the EDAT program's mission-critical goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand platform requirements and develop solutions aligned with operational objectives.
  • Automate deployment, monitoring, and management processes using IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  • Ensure that platforms can handle increasing workloads while maintaining security and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor platform performance to identify areas for improvement, implementing optimizations to enhance resource utilization and reliability.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and resolve performance-related issues promptly.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices across all platforms, ensuring compliance with DoD regulations, including DISA STIG, NIST 800-53, and RMF.
  • Safeguard platforms against potential vulnerabilities through proactive security measures and regular audits.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate platforms seamlessly with applications and services, enabling efficient data flow and communication.
  • Support continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to ensure alignment between platforms and deployed applications.
  • Continuously evaluate new tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve infrastructure performance and align with industry trends.
  • Recommend and implement innovative solutions to enhance scalability, security, and efficiency.
  • Provide regular updates on platform performance, security, and scalability to stakeholders, highlighting issues and proposing solutions.
  • Document platform configurations, procedures, and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing and consistency across teams.

Basic Qualifications.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Additional training and years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Must possess one of the following certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
  • 4-7 years of experience in platform engineering, system administration, or related IT roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and maintain scalable and secure IT infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) and automation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with monitoring and performance optimization tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk).
  • Must possess a Top Secret clearance.
  • Familiarity with DoD security standards, including DISA STIG, NIST 800-53, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Ability to implement security controls and ensure compliance across platforms.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between platforms and program goals.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for resolving platform-related issues.

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Security certifications like CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or CCSP
  • Experience managing hybrid or multi-cloud environments with high security and performance requirements.
  • Proficiency in integrating platform engineering tools into CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps workflows.
  • Familiarity with USSOCOM's operational requirements and the SOF Information Environment (SIE).
  • Previous experience supporting DoD programs, ensuring alignment with strict security and operational standards.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement platform improvements to enhance scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Experience recommending and deploying cutting-edge platform tools and technologies to meet evolving program needs.
  • Strong ability to document platform configurations, processes, and best practices.
  • Experience providing training and mentorship to team members to ensure consistent platform operations.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
