More About the Role:
Leidos is seeking a Network Engineer to support related efforts for SMIT, the largest IT services program for the Navy. Under the Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT), Leidos team will deliver the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. Ultimately, the Leidos team will support the Navy in unifying its shore-based networks and data management to improve capability and service while also saving significant dollars by focusing efforts under one enterprise network. The successful candidate will support network engineering for voice, video, and data communications (such as BAN/LAN/WLAN/WAN, cross-domain solutions, communications security, and piers connectivity) in the NMCI network.

What You'll Get to Do:
This position is responsible for technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development and integration, verification and validation, and fielding. Evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems. Duties include performing systems requirements analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition, technical management, integration, system testing, and quality assurance. The BAN and WLAN WAN Systems Engineer will proactively contribute to the analysis of system requirements, planning, solutioning/architectural design, system verification testing, and ongoing technical oversight to NMCI transport systems.

Other duties include:
• Perform research, development and analysis, and validation testing of vendor solutions to ensure effective design and application in the production environment.
• Collaborate with system Domain Architects to define system requirements and recommend hardware selections based on cost and capability analysis.
• Provide technical knowledge transfer to operational teams as part of the planning of upgrades, replacement, configuration, and maintenance of networking/transport projects.
• Engineer solutions that provide secure, effective, and efficient operations of systems, architecture, and topology for transport.
• Participate in new and existing IT modernization, expansion, and improvement projects related to transport for the NMCI network.
• Collaborate with technical experts to synthesize solutions related to transport.
• Lead analysis, review, and validation with customers, stakeholders, and team members for NMCI projects and changes related to transport.
• Significant collaboration and coordination with external customers, management, subcontractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines.
• Comply with ITSM processes and procedures, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) governance, and Cybersecurity requirements within the DoDI 8500.01 and DON 5239.
• Support development and maintenance of engineering processes, checklists, and procedures for transport.
• Analyzes network bandwidth needs and recommend measures to meet those requirements.
• Advanced knowledge of defense-in-depth principles, Network and Security architecture, network topology, IT device integrity, and common security elements.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
• Typically requires B.S. Degree and 8-12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6-10 years of prior relevant experience (in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university).
• Eight (8) or more years' experience on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Secret clearance to start the program.
• Minimum of DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification required prior to onboarding: CompTIA Security+ CE, ISC2 SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, or CYSA+ (See DoD 8570.01-M Appendix 3 for valid certifications).
• An Associate level Network Vendor Certification is required prior to onboarding (from one of the following Vendors): Cisco, Juniper, CommScope/Ruckus/Brocade, F5 Networks or Aruba Networks, Azure, Palo Alto.
• 8+ years' experience engineering and troubleshooting networks, including extensive routing and switching experience such as MPLS, VPNs, routing protocols i.e. BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, switching protocols i.e. Spanning Tree Protocol, VLANs, LLDP, VoIP, Multicast protocols and emerging network technologies.
• General Technical knowledge and skills in one or more of the following areas: BAN/LAN/WLAN/WAN, cross domain solutions, communications security, and piers connectivity.
• In-depth knowledge of Cisco, Aruba, Tellabs, Ruckus (Brocade), Cisco DNA-C network hardware/platforms.
• Experience working in large information technology enterprise environments designing/architecting networks.
• Experience in collaborating with other enterprise technologists both internal and external to resolve complex technical issues.
• Strong analytical, communication and troubleshooting skills that enable proactive and effective collaboration with a virtual team.
• Ability to multi-task, self-assign work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Experience working on DoD programs, specifically Navy programs.
• Experience with network, security, infrastructure architecture activities and tasks on a large government IT Infrastructure project with 24x7 mission support requirements; Network Design and Development; Data Center Services; Site to Site / Remote Access Virtual Private Network (VPN) Services; Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) Services; Network Backbone Services; Local Area Network (LAN); Wide Area Network (WAN) Services; Voice over IP (VoIP); Wireless Networks; Cloud Network Services; Firewall; Web Filtering; Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS); Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS); Network Access Control (NAC);Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate Management; Traffic/Infrastructure Monitoring; System Accreditation and Authorization.
• Strong understanding and in-depth knowledge of IP network/subnet addressing.
• Experienced and adept at developing and maintaining technical documents, analyses, and reports.
• The position is remote but travel is possible, although rare.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
• Certificationns: CCNA/CCNP, INCOSE CSEP, CISSP, CASP+, ITIL v3/v4 Foundation.
• Previous work experience providing support to the NGEN-NMCI program is highly desired.
• Experience with Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager (CPPM) identity management solution.
• Advanced/Professional level vendor certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Palo Alto, Gigamon, NetScout).
• Demonstrated NET/SEC DevOps experience.
• Agile certifications or applicable experience.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
