The DBA works closely with the Program team to manage, maintain, modernize and optimize performance, durability, and cost. You will deliver solutions that ultimately ensure that the functions of Medicare, Medicaid, and Marketplace are carried out to contribute to efforts to reduce healthcare costs.

The responsibilities for this position include all aspects of the development lifecycle including scoping and work estimation, coding, and automated testing within an Agile model. Your goal will be to work with all stakeholders to help Leidos ensure delivery of high-quality, robust, and scalable solutions with minimal business impact. Lastly and most importantly, you will represent our program when meeting with the Application Development Organizations (ADO) and identify opportunities to provide support as well as modernization and innovation opportunities for their application.

The current work environment is remote leveraging various tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and recommend available database management system (DBMS) products.


  • Perform database and software life-cycle activities to ensure the highest level of system performance, availability and compliance with business requirements.
  • Organize and format data for efficient query and storage processes.
  • Support and coordinate the implementation of database products (MySQL/PostGres, MSSQL, Aurora) on a variety of platforms (VMware, Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS).
  • Resolve various Modernization tasks as prioritized by the team product owner.
  • Take ownership of delivering enhancements within a system or application.
  • Break down sizable tasks into manageable units for execution and provide LOE estimations.
  • Ensure team compliance with Agile processes and best practices.
  • Build solutions where the solution is not clearly defined but always prioritizing customer needs.
  • Working collaboratively with the Product Owner, technical leadership, and other engineers to create and document optimal technical designs.
  • The DBA will maintain the integrity, security and availability of multiple database(s).
  • Duties include disaster recovery, performance analysis and tuning, index maintenance, and monitoring of data.
  • Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database.
  • Increase day-to-day operational efficiency and accuracy via the use of automated tools and scripts.
  • Support the writing and delivery of daily infrastructure analysis reports.
  • Develop/review SOP's and other documentation for use for the operations teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Master's with 2+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Strong software scripting skills in Python and other scripting languages
  • Hands-on experience with the following technologies:
    • RDBMS databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySql, etc.)
    • AWS Database Services (RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, ElastiCache)
    • Cloud IaaS, PaaS, SaaS offerings and DB Migration Tools (AWS - DMS, SCT)
    • Continuous Delivery/Integration tools such as Sonarqube, Snyk, Jenkins, Argo CD (Kubernetes), etc.
    • Cloud Development: AWS, Azure, or similar cloud platforms
    • Relational Databases: PostgreSQL, MS SQL, MySQL
    • Operating Systems: Linux, AL2, AL23, RHEL and Windows
    • Version Control System: Git
  • Understanding of cloud services and coding standards.
  • Experience migrating databases into production.
  • Experience migrating databases to and from the cloud.
  • Working knowledge of Agile development and continuous integration/continuous delivery methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with AWS/Azure CLI, shell languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell), and formal programming languages (e.g., Python, Golang, Rust).


  • Strong, self-motivated desire to learn new cloud technologies, programming languages, tools, frameworks, and techniques.
  • Ability to complete tasking independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplined engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Configuration Management Tools: Ansible, Git, Terraform
  • NoSQL Database: OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Neo4j, DynamoDB
  • Specific AWS Services: S3, SQS, SNS, EC2, CloudWatch and RDS
  • Automated Software Deployment: Kubernetes, Containerization
  • Cloud Certifications such as AWS DevOps Engineer or similar
  • Backend Development: Java including Java Spring Boot
  • Knowledge of continuous integration and delivery tools: Jenkins, CloudBees

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • All candidates supporting this project must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years prior in order to be considered.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
