Description

Leidos Maritime System Solutions (MSS) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a growing, fast-paced engineering research, development, testing and evaluation team at Naval Information Warfare Center, Pacific.

The selected candidate will be part of a world-class team responsible for development, manufacture and test of electro-mechanical devices for use with Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) and other undersea systems and maritime mission applications. This individual will work closely with the government-industry engineering team through all project phases. Work may involve prototypes, small quantity proof of concept, and low-rate initial production systems.

This junior/entry-level position will require the candidate to hold a Secret Clearance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate payloads for UUV systems
  • Develop tools and methods to aid in payload integration, production and test
  • Design and manage manufacture of waterproof housings for payload components, sensors, and electronics
  • Conduct at-sea operational and survivability testing
  • Create and manage CAD models of components and assemblies
  • Support configuration management processes for relevant mechanical systems, interfaces, and assembly procedures
  • Work independently on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments.
  • Develop and evaluate solution options to technical problems that require depth of technical knowledge

Basic Qualifications

  • Basic proficiency with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) skills, SolidWorks or SolidEdge preferred
  • Proficiency with machine shop tools, mill, lathe, CNC, 3D Printer
  • Experience with Windows and Unix Operating Systems
  • Experience designing for the marine environment
  • Experience with Oceanographic instruments
  • Ability to work on a small boat (i.e. not susceptible to motion sickness)
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, able to work in small, collaborative teams comprised of both contractor and government engineers. Should be prepared to show initiative and lead when needed.
  • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work on several project concurrently
  • Ability to accomplish tasks independently with minimal oversight
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • US Citizenship
  • Currently holds a Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, including test reports and part drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 GD&T Standard

Pay Range:

Pay Range $67,600.00 - $122,200.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
