Leidos Gibbs & Cox, currently has an opening for a Mid-Level Marine Mechanical Engineer to support the USCG Ship Design Team (CG-459). The mission of CG-459 is to provide complete lifecycle management of floating assets from concept design through delivery and sea trials. This position provides you the opportunity to contribute to the design and construction of new USCG acquisitions, including small boats, cutters, and icebreakers, directly alongside Coast Guard personnel. This position focuses on the development and review of Propulsion system designs for USCG assets.

Prefer candidates to be local to Washington, DC to enable onsite work at USCG Headquarters, 2 to 3 days per week. However, fully remote candidates will be considered.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide marine engineering support for both conventional and electric propulsion systems.
  • Provide engineering and technical support for review of shipyard engineering documentation packages.
  • Perform feasibility studies, trade-off analyses, and indicative propulsion designs for potential future vessel acquisition programs.
  • Perform calculations applying propulsion system design principles, techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Interface directly with USCG and shipyard personnel.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and must have an active secret clearance or be eligible to be granted one.
  • BS or MS in Technical, Engineering, or Marine degree from ABET-accredited institution, related to field of work.
  • Minimum of 2 years' documented experience relating to the design of marine systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Security clearance.
  • Familiarity with USCG, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Documented experience relating to the design of marine propulsion systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or other CAD type software.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $67,600.00 - $122,200.00
