Leidos is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Large Projects to lead the Antarctic Support Contract's (ASC) Projects Department and oversee major construction projects across Antarctica. These projects are critical to the National Science Foundation (NSF) and form part of the United States Antarctic Program. This leadership role is responsible for managing and overseeing all phases of project delivery, from planning and initiation through to construction, commissioning, and contract closeout.

ASC is tasked with the operations and management of three research stations in Antarctica, with infrastructure revitalization being a key focus. This includes overseeing a wide range of projects, including those funded as congressional line items. As the Director, you will provide strategic direction and decision-making as a member of the ASC Senior Leadership Team, working collaboratively with other senior leaders and maintaining close communication with our customer, the NSF.

Deployment to Antarctica will be required periodically of this role. The candidate in the position must complete the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.

Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.

Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to start date. This process could take up to 4 months.

About the Antarctic Support Contract:

Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF's Office of Polar Program's Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:

  • Vision: Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.
  • Mission: To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.

Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines. The planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica is a critical part of our mission.

The Challenge:

  • Lead and inspire project teams to ensure projects are completed within budget, on schedule, and in conformance with design and governance documents.
  • Manage large subcontracts involved in construction activities.
  • Integrate with business functional teams to ensure project performance and successful completion.
  • Collaborate with the ASC Senior Leadership Team to align project planning and execution with program resources.
  • Coordinate and integrate the activities of all project team members and support functions, establishing priorities based on client and project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with subcontract terms and conditions and performance baseline commitments.
  • Oversee the development, review, and approval of project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates, and financial reports, ensuring successful execution of baseline commitments.
  • Lead monthly project/client meetings to review project progress and address issues, presenting detailed project data including Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), schedule trending analysis, and critical path assessments.
  • Guide the project team in risk management, forecasting potential impacts, and prioritizing decisions to mitigate risks.
  • Support contingency planning to recover performance baselines (cost, schedule, and scope) and ensure delivery on contract commitments.
  • Develop, present, and obtain approval for Mission Needs Statements, Functional Operational Requirements documents, and Analysis of Alternatives.
  • Provide project financial information to the program's financial team for corporate planning and forecasting.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least 15 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 12 years of relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of experience Project Management.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects, including budgets, schedules, and deliverables. PMP certification is a plus.
  • Experience managing Large subcontracts to meet Project schedules.
  • Experience working in technical services with a federal customer in a highly regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry standards and certifications.
  • Experience in maintaining cost and schedule performance using earned value methodologies on projects exceeding $50 million.

You May Also Have:

  • Professional registration or Project Management Institute certification.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction/building projects, with at least 10 years at the Project Manager or Construction Engineering Manager level.
  • Experience in remote or extreme environment construction.
  • Familiarity with the NSF Research Infrastructure Guide (RIG).
  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
