Description
Leidos is seeking a Licensed Fire Protection Engineer (with expertise in Fire Life Safety) to join the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC) team.
The position will support numerous facets of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Fire Life Safety (FLS) Program, FLS Guidance, policy development, and planning. You will assist the FAA's Terminal/Surveillance/Weather Engineering team to support and improve Fire Life Safety program elements intended to protect employees and others in the workplace and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and FAA laws and regulations.

Fire Protection Engineer Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide Comprehensive Fire Life Safety (FLS) Support - Assist designers with document reviews, consultations, and interpreting FLS requirements and regulations to ensure complete, biddable, and buildable designs.
- Design Verification - Ensure all design drawings are complete and updated before bid solicitation.
- Consultant Oversight - Conduct inspections before and after A&E consultant arrival, monitor their progress, and review their design submittals for completeness and accuracy.
- Documentation Management - Maintain a detailed FLS Design file system, including milestone schedules and best practices.
- National Standards Contribution - Support national standard design reviews and updates related to FLS.
- Construction Compliance - Ensure construction projects meet OSHA and FLS requirements, participate in pre-bid walk-throughs, and act as a technical resource for FAA construction managers.
- Submittal Reviews - Evaluate and review contractor submittals for fire protection systems and handle corrections and revisions as needed.
- Site Inspections and Project Closeout - Perform periodic site visits to inspect work, evaluate contractor progress, and verify compliance with project requirements.
- Training and Guidance - Provide FLS training to personnel, support project closeout, and address JAI exceptions through the closure plan.
Fire Protection Engineer Basic Qualifications:
- Relevant Bachelors' Degree, preferred in Fire Protection Engineering, and 4+ years of progressive experience in the Fire Life Safety/Fire Protection field or a relevant Masters' Degree and 2+ years relevant experience.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable ICC and NFPA codes.
- Past experience developing and/or providing holistic consultation on FLS programs.
- Ability to produce FLS designs of a variety of critical FLS elements and be able to provide critical comments on FLS designs and installations.
- Former experience in training FLS concepts and code application.
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineering License.
- Experience with FAA National Airspace System facilities, FAA staffed or unstaffed facilities, or similar government installations.
- Experience with 29 CFR 1960.20.
- Specific experience with programs at Federal agencies is preferred, with FAA experience weighted heavily.
- Former training on the use/maintenance of Fire Protection systems.
- High rise experience.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00
