The successful Engineering Tech candidate will support the following activities with minimal oversight: .
- Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
- Work as member of Joint USE/Fiber Make Ready Team to do in-field GIS data collection and make education in-field design suggestions based on field data. Work environment will be 95% in-field. This job will be a great first step into electric distribution and will provide a valuable foundation for a career in the power delivery industry.
- Team member will use a hasting stick to measure Joint Use attachment heights & utility-owned distribution lines/attachments. Field data will be collected using Leidos proprietary software in order to update utilities GIS and make design determinations. Team member may need to keep rental car overnight.
- Experience using Esri's ArcGIS suite or other GIS software required. In-field experience preferred. All candidates must understand the in-field time requirements needed to complete this role. Travel typically will be limited to specific client region where candidate is located, but may occasionally require travel to other regions throughout Virginia and may require overnight travel.
- Perform engineering calculations and review work of other Engineers such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
- Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and 3rd party owners for joint-owned poles.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
Engineering Tech Basic Qualifications:
- Level 1: HS Diploma or equivalent and 1+ years of relevant experience.
- Level 2: HS Diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience. OR AA Degree in GIS or Engineering technology or GIS Certificate and 2+ years of experience
- Knowledge of NESC Standards
- Knowledge of Client Standards preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Willingness to perform both field and office work.
- Overnight travel may be required (10-20% travel).
- Ability to work in outdoor environments.
- Ability to utilize personal vehicle.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $33,150.00 - $59,925.00
