Currently, we have an opportunity for a Director of Project Management to join our growing Strategic Project Consulting team. This position will be part of an established Project Management Office that is focused on expanding and executing a portfolio of utility program management, project management, and auxiliary support services with both public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities. The candidate will have the opportunity to provide input and influence the strategic growth of the organization as well as help shape the culture of a dynamic team across our service territory. The position requires previous experience working with, for and/or alongside of U.S. based electric utilities, along with exemplary program and account management and leadership skills.
The Director of Project Management will work alongside leaders and senior management within their region while partnering with the technical side of the organization to support large program portfolios for multiple utility clients across North America. The successful candidate will have experience managing large teams, large program portfolios and have experience managing the business side of the industry from a Business Development standpoint.
The estimated pay for this position is approximately 160-165k annually.
This role is remote in nature, but candidates located in the Northeastern and/or Midwestern United States will be preferred. This allows us to best serve the needs of Leidos' localized utility clients.
Program Management Responsibilities include:
- Northeast and MidWest region Customer Portfolio - Lead various sized projects for public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities or developers.
- Monitor the overall execution and performance of large-scale programs for several investor-owned electric utilities.
- Effectively manage at the program and portfolio level to positively influence the efficient execution of work while maximizing profit. Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Project Management Team.
- Ensuring project costs, schedule and scope are managed, including the development of recovery plans, to stay within stakeholder approved project parameters.
- Program Performance - Responsible for overall project performance as well as managing the scope, schedule, budget, and safety performance.
- Assist with the development, use, and maintenance of comprehensive project dashboard reports and KPI tracking. Ensure organizational compliance of support staff for administrative items informing Key Performances Indicators.
- Write comprehensive and technical and project reports. Review staff technical and project reports for issuance to clients and internal senior management.
- Implement quality control processes to maintain high standards in project deliverables.
- Conduct regular project reviews to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Stakeholder Coordination - Interface directly with clients and internal management to report progress, costs, schedule, and risks across a portfolio of client-owned Capital Utility and Distribution projects.
- Consistently communicate and work across multiple program and function support areas including client, project teams, functional leadership, subcontractors, and support personnel.
- Act as liaison between the project team, line managers, and interfacing organizations.
- Resource Management - Lead a team of project managers, project schedulers, project controllers and multi-discipline engineering departments that are assigned to project work.
- Strategically assess and determine staffing requirements to effectively support current project portfolios, anticipate future resource needs, and lead the acquisition of top-tier talent through proactive sourcing and recruitment initiatives.
- Recruitment of new PMO staff to support on-contract or new client growth; including coordination with Leidos Talent Acquisition, interviewing and assigning new team members.
- Train and mentor PMO staff.
- Provide insight to Senior Management on Annual Operating Plan forecasts per Section.
Future Growth and Strategic Business Development Responsibilities include:
- Work directly with senior management to shape the culture of the PMO organization and broader organization.
- Strategic Plan Development - Establish detailed account plans and implement strategies to achieve account and business growth.
- Business Development - Leverage existing contracts and identify new contract and project opportunities to increase the PMO's Project Consulting office portfolio.
- Lead and/or support large-scale proposal development efforts that accurately defines the project scope, schedule and budgets.
- Lead efforts to standardize processes and drive the adoption of innovative technologies to boost operational effectiveness.
Qualifications/Background Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in one of the following disciplines: Engineering, Business or Construction Management required with 12+ years' of relevant Project Management experience or a Masters with 10+ years of relevant Project Management experience in the electric utility industry.
- Must demonstrate recent and in-depth expertise in electric power infrastructure projects and transmission, substation, and distribution design.
- Experience managing Capital Utility Projects or large scale Programs is preferred.
- Proven track record of achieving success through a collaborative team approach
- PMP or PE Certification is required.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $112,450.00 - $203,275.00
